New Mercy Ministry Update January 2026
Over twenty-five years ago Pastor Theirry Belade felt God calling him to a remote mountain top called Toro. It was a two-hour walk up the mountain. What he found there were people hungry for the Lord and so he committed to climbing that mountain each week to share God’s word.
About the same time Rick Langstaff felt God calling him to Haiti. He asked around if anyone had been there but no one had connections. Eventually, someone had heard of a young man named Belade in Les Cayes that was looking for some help.
Rick boarded a plane to Haiti, traveled to Les Cayes, to meet Belade at the bottom of Toro Mountain. First trip up was on a mule that New Mercy Ministries was able to purchase for them.
Since than many people have travelled with Rick up to Toro, on foot, on the back of a donkey, a motorcycle and eventually a truck on a very bumpy road. Early on we helped build a cistern, which saved the daily four hour walk for water. Eventually a church was built, rooms for orphans, a guest house and a school. Supplies all being carried up the mountain before the road was built. Then in 2016, Hurricane Matthew reduced the buildings on Toro to a pile of rubble and twisted rebar. Scrap pieces of lumber and tin were used to prop up a tarp roof to at least protect the congregation from the sun. The tarp also caught rain water that was put into the cistern that had thankfully remained intact.
Over the last number of years, they have been working hard to farm and earn income to rebuild and now the construction has started!
The large truck that New Mercy Ministries purchased for transporting their produce to market has been a great asset in moving building materials.
Due to the instability in Port Au Prince flights into Haiti have not been an option the last five years. However, with direct flights into Les Cayes now available Rick will be doing a mission trip in February 2026.
This will include time and ministry on Toro. PTL ! Please keep him in your prayers.

One thing I immediately noticed upon visiting Pastor Belade’s, MEPHISH churches, was that community is a priority. On one visit leading up to Easter we went to church every night! We couldn’t wait for the next day so we could return. I will never forget the young children running after our van on one of those evenings waving their glow sticks, energized by the joy in that place. God teaches us the importance of spending time with the body of Christ. That we are one body.
“For we were all baptized by one spirit into one body-“ 1Corinthians 12:13
“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.” 1Cor 12:26
For this reason, it is a purpose of New Mercy Ministries to support the many conferences, teaching seminars and gatherings that MEPHISH holds through out the year. Whether it is a youth retreat, pastor conferences, annual convention, these times bring together the thirteen church communities for uplifting fellowship and teaching.
Many people travel days to reach the events and therefore food needs to be provided. Often times these are multiday gatherings that require a lot of food! We are happy that we can provide the means to allow these times of blessing, where hope can be restored and faith renewed especially during these difficult times in Haiti.

The world can seem a crazy place, out of control. We panic, complain, get into long debates about how to make it better, but Mathew 24:6 says “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.” Daily life gives us struggles also; broken cars, sickness, work challenges but hear God’s word in Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.” This word came to the Israelites when they were pursued and hemmed in by the Egyptians....

The world can seem a crazy place, out of control. We panic, complain, get into long debates about how to make it better, but Mathew 24:6 says “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.”

Daily life gives us struggles also; broken cars, sickness, work challenges but hear God’s word in Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.” This word came to the Israelites when they were pursued and hemmed in by the Egyptians.

To the Israelites in exile in Babylon, God said, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Belade recently requested prayer for his brother in Port-Au-Prince. Gang violence has increased and citizens have taken to the streets with the police.

He reports “About 45 gangs passed away in the night of November 19-20! I am sorry for their soul!”
We see the violence in the news. We hear desperate requests for prayer. Yet out of the chaos and darkness, a light shines. Belade and his communities stand on God’s word and continue to share the hope with the lost. They are dedicated to their call to action.
Boulard is a remote mountain community with a congregation that meets in the school. They have experienced so much growth they can no longer meet in the school and have started preparing the ground to build a church. It’s a challenge to find flat ground on the side of a mountain, but for Jesus it can be done.
The people working with shovels to make a flat spot to build their church.
