One of the smallest details at the cross reveals one of the biggest truths about Jesus.
The soldiers broke the legs of the two men beside Him.
But not His.
That was not random.
That was prophecy.
Hundreds of years earlier, Scripture declared,
“Not one of His bones will be broken.”
And in that moment, even Rome unknowingly obeyed the Word of God.
Jesus was the true Passover Lamb.
In Exodus, the lamb that covered God’s people during judgment could not have its bones broken.
Now at Passover, Jesus hangs on a cross fulfilling the shadow perfectly.
The Lamb of God was being sacrificed for the sins of the world.
But there is something even deeper here.
The other men had their legs broken because death was being forced upon them.
Jesus was different.
By the time the soldiers reached Him, He had already given up His spirit.
No one took His life from Him.
He laid it down willingly.
That means Jesus did not die as a victim of Rome.
He died as the Savior who chose the cross.
Even in death, His authority remained untouched.
His body was wounded.
His side was pierced.
His blood was poured out.
But the sacrifice remained whole.
Nothing was accidental.
Nothing was out of control.
Every detail was preaching the gospel.
The unbroken bones declared that the Lamb was perfect.
The debt was paid.
The sacrifice was complete.
And when Jesus said,
“It is finished,”
He meant it.
Sin was finished.
Separation was finished.
The price was finished.
The cross was not defeat.
It was deliverance.
