When Genesis 2:2 says that God “rested,” it simply means that he ceased. He finished the work of creation and stopped because everything he intended to do was done.
The Sabbath was never meant to be a rule to keep, it was a blessing to be enjoyed. God blessed the day, called it holy, and gave humanity a loving gift: after six days of work, stop. Rest.
But the Sabbath points to something even greater. It speaks to a deeper rest, not one that comes at the end of our work, but at the end of Christ’s.
