"Jesus came to people without important jobs to show they were important", Elsie said about the shepherd part of the story. No followers, no influence, out in a field tending to the menial and God chose them. Today that job would be a death sentence for the hustle and visibility of the world that we live in. But the host of heaven filled into the obscurity, a vibrant processional in the dark sky for the infant God, all done before the eyes of those whose pupils were tuned to the lonely mundane. Jesus, postpartum ina manager, was positioned where anyone of any social status could come - any reputation, any upbringing. They didn't need a VIP ticket to get in, no blue validation check, no microphone or global impact; they just needed humility. Anyone can afford that; everyone has access. And still, all the small, seemingly forgotten things in me find their place in that manger as well, infantile offerings validated, soul feeling its worth.
