A Historic Moment & A New Chapter of Hope!
We are overjoyed to share some truly special news with our Martha Retreat Centre family! On August 31st, 2026, during our 3rd Annual Garden Harvest Celebration, the Sisters of St. Martha formally announced the transfer of ownership of the retreat centre property and grounds to the local Martha Retreat Centre Society. To ensure our sanctuary remains a vibrant home of peace, stillness, and spiritual renewal for generations to come, the Sisters accompanied this transfer with a landmark $1,000,000 gift to establish a permanent community endowment fund! We were deeply blessed to have Congregation Leader Sr. Brendalee Boisvert, Sr. Liz Riopelle, Sr. Joanne O’Regan, and Sr. Theresa Parker join us from Antigonish, NS, for this momentous day. Speaking to everyone gathered in our chapel, Sr. Brendalee shared: "This transfer represents more than a change in ownership. It is an act of trust and a tangible expression of our undaunted hope." This historic milestone honours the Sisters’ nearly century-long legacy in Southern Alberta and their loving care of the Centre since 1974. Board Chair Kathryn Gillis and Executive Director Fr. Robert Steele accepted the property on behalf of our community, placing the stewardship of these sacred grounds into local hands. Our heart swells with gratitude for the Sisters of St. Martha, our hardworking staff, board members, passionate volunteers, and recently retired Executive Director Diana Sim, whose faithful guidance helped prepare our community for this milestone. This is not an ending, but the start of a beautiful new chapter! We invite you to walk forward with us—whether by attending an upcoming retreat, volunteering, offering prayers, or contributing to the endowment fund. To learn more about this transition, explore upcoming programs, or support the endowment campaign, visit us at: www.martharetreatcentre.ca Thank you for being such an essential part of our Martha Retreat Centre family!

The final performance of Sister Garden took place on Friday, July 24. We are so grateful to everyone involved and there were many! To the playwright and actor, Laura Teasdale, and actors Ryanne Chisholm and Janet Becigneul , thank you for bringing the wonderful script to life! The many folks who contributed their time and talent making props, costumes and the myriad other things that were a feast for the eye! And Marielle Assad, your dedication and organization created a seemingly effortless mobile theatre! Thanks also to Barry MacKenzie and the Antigonish Heritage Museum for handling the tickets, and so much more, to local businesses for their support, and CJFX Radio for helping to spread the word. It was a joy to share this with all who attended! Thank you all.
