From Last Sunday's Sermon:

"This is the consolation of Palm Sunday. Christ does not only walk confidently toward Jerusalem long ago. He walks with that same confidence into us. He enters willingly into the places where death has already lodged itself in us. He comes into our sickness, not as one made helpless by it, but as Lord. He comes into our guilt, not to make peace with it, but to atone for it. He comes into our shame, not to flatter it or excuse it, but to cleanse it. He comes into the bruised and hidden chambers of the soul, where old sins still accuse and old sorrows still bleed. He comes not to make Himself comfortable there, but to heal us from within."

Join us this Holy Week as we walk with our Lord through His Passion and look ahead in joy to His resurrection.

Holy Communion will be celebrated on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter Sunday. In these sacred gifts, Christ serves His people with His true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of sins, the strengthening of faith, and the comfort of troubled hearts.

We would be glad to welcome you as we gather to hear God’s Word, pray, and keep these holy days together.

You are warmly invited.

From last Saunday's Sermon:

Now St. John tells this miracle with a purpose that reaches beyond the miracle itself. It is a sign. The visible is given to lead us toward the invisible. It is not enough to admire the wonder, as one admires finely drawn letters without reading what they say. The miracle has a language. It speaks. It asks to be understood. And what does it say? It says that the Lord who feeds the body has come to feed the soul. The bread upon the hillside was true bread, and the hunger it relieved was true hunger. Yet those who ate were hungry again. The sign points beyond itself. It trains us to desire another food, one which does not fail, one which is Christ Himself. For the same Lord who here takes bread, gives thanks, and distributes it to the multitude will soon say, “I am the Bread of Life.” And the same Lord who later, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, gave thanks, and gave it to His disciples, teaches His Church to look from this hillside toward the altar of His holy Supper. There too the visible serves the invisible. Bread and wine are set before our senses. But faith is taught not to stop at appearance. By His word and thanksgiving, Christ gives what no eye could discover by itself. He gives His Body and Blood for the forgiveness of sins. Here the Lord gives not only from His hand, but gives Himself.

From last Sunday's sermon:

"And now, see how immeasurable that mercy is. This Lord does not merely drop crumbs to keep us alive. He calls us to His table. He draws us to His altar. And there He gives more than bread—He gives Himself. He does not simply hand us a little kindness from a distance. He comes near. He makes Himself our Bread. He gives to you not a fragment, not a remainder, not a leftover mercy, but the fullness of His own body and blood, the totality of His saving love."

Divine Service with the Imposition of Ashes
The ashes confess a simple truth: we are dust, and to dust we shall return. Yet the Gospel proclaims a greater truth: in Jesus, sinners are forgiven and given life.

From last Sunday’s sermon:
"And this same Lord still gives His wine to those who lack. He invites us not only to observe His mercy from a distance, but to receive it with our own mouths. At His altar, He places into our hands the cup that never runs dry, the wine that is His own blood, given and shed for the forgiveness of sins. There He meets our watered-down lives—our thin faith, our faltering love, our compromised obedience—and He does not despise them. He fills them. He transforms them. What we could never produce in ourselves, He supplies by His gift."

As Advent comes to its close, the Gospel places before us John the Baptizer, the faithful voice preparing the way for the Lamb of God. This Sunday at Good Shepherd, we gather to hear that same call to readiness and repentance, trusting the One who stands among us even when He is not recognized. Come and lift your hearts to the true Light who is about to be revealed in the flesh.
