For the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, Sunday 7pm Choir offers a glorious collection of three classic Ascension hymns that together carry us from the moment Christ is lifted up in glory.

We begin with "Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise," Charles Wesley's jubilant 1739 hymn set to the LLANFAIR tune, praising the King of glory ascending to His throne to intercede for us at the Father's right hand.

We then sing "Sing We Triumphant Hymns of Praise," the ancient Latin hymn of the Venerable Bede (673–735), translated into English and set to the beloved LASST UNS ERFREUEN tune, exulting in Christ's triumphant ascent above all powers and principalities as proclaimed in Ephesians 1:17–23.

We close with "Go Make Of All Disciples," Leon Adkins' setting of the Great Commission from Matthew 28:16–20 — the very Gospel for this Sunday — sending the Church forth to baptize and teach all nations in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with Christ's promise: "I am with you always, until the end of the age."

The "Ave Maria" by Bach/Gounod is one of the most beloved sacred works ever written — a melody by the French Romantic composer Charles Gounod (1818–1893) superimposed over Johann Sebastian Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C Major, BWV 846, originally published in 1853 as "Méditation sur le 1er Prélude de Piano de S. Bach," and ever since a prayer of transcendent beauty that draws the heart gently upward to Our Lady.

"Come to the Lord" — co-written by Steve Angrisano and Tom Tomaszek and based directly on John 14 — is a warm, uplifting song of invitation and comfort, calling us to come without fear or worry to the Lord who says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me."

This new version of "Come To The Lord" recorded by Sunday 7pm Choir is sung more gently on purpose, to evoke a new sense of reverence and prayerfulness to the song's lyrics.

This Fifth Sunday of Easter, the Church gives us one of the most consoling passages in all of Scripture: Jesus promising His disciples — and us — that He goes to prepare a place for us in His Father's house, that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that whoever believes in Him will do even greater works because He goes to the Father (John 14:1–12).

Angrisano and Tomaszek's song captures the very heart of that promise, inviting us to come to the table of the Lord, to lay down our burdens, and to trust in the One who has made a place for us — an especially beautiful and tender message for First Communion, times of loss, or whenever a weary heart needs to hear that it is safe to come home.

"For You Are My God" by Jesuit composer John Foley, S.J. is a beloved Catholic setting of Psalm 16, with its tender refrain — "For you are my God; you alone are my joy. Defend me, O Lord" — drawing us into a profound prayer of total trust in God as our shelter, our portion, our cup, and our delight.

This Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday), the Church pairs this spirit of trust and surrender beautifully with the Gospel of John 10:1–10, in which Jesus declares Himself the Gate of the sheepfold and the Good Shepherd whose voice His sheep recognize and follow into the fullness of life, and with Psalm 23 — "The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want." Together, song and Scripture invite us to say from the depths of our hearts: You are my God, my shepherd, my gate, my joy — and in You I lack nothing.

“He Never Failed Me Yet” by Robert Ray is a powerful contemporary gospel anthem of trust and testimony, joyfully proclaiming that God is faithful in every trial and that Jesus will surely bring us out, no matter what the test.

The song's soaring refrain—“Trust and never doubt, Jesus will surely bring you out, He never failed me yet”—echo the Easter season and Divine Mercy message that the risen Lord stands in our midst and breathes His peace, mercy, and strength into fearful hearts (John 20:19–31, Divine Mercy Sunday).

This song is especially fitting when we want to celebrate God’s saving action in our lives and encourage one another to keep singing of His mercy every day and every hour. May this spirited performance lift your heart, stir your faith, and help you remember that the Lord who has carried you this far will not fail you now.

“O My People (The Reproaches)” by Christopher Walker is a hauntingly beautiful setting of the traditional Good Friday Reproaches, the ancient “Popule Meus” in which Christ, from the Cross, tenderly yet sorrowfully asks His people, “What have I done to you? How have I hurt you? Answer me.”

Sung during the Adoration of the Holy Cross on Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, this piece places us at the foot of the Cross, hearing the Lord recall all He has done to save us—from leading His people out of Egypt to feeding them with manna and bringing them into the promised land—while we acknowledge how often we respond with indifference, sin, and rejection.

“Sing My Tongue the Savior’s Glory” is a solemn chant based on the ancient Latin Pange Lingua, traditionally attributed to St. Thomas Aquinas, here sung in the classic English translation by John Mason Neale. This powerful text invites us to contemplate the mystery of Christ’s Passion and the institution of the Eucharist, tracing the story of our salvation from the Incarnation to the Cross and the altar, and calling our tongues, hearts, and lives to proclaim the Savior’s glory.

Whether for Holy Thursday, Eucharistic adoration, or quiet personal prayer, this hymn draws us into deeper adoration of the Crucified and Risen Lord who gives Himself to us as living Bread from heaven.

“All Glory, Laud and Honor” is the classic Palm Sunday processional hymn praising Christ the Redeemer King who enters Jerusalem to the cries of “Hosanna!” and the waving of palms. On Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion in 2026, as we hear Matthew’s account of Jesus’ triumphal entry and then his saving Passion, this hymn invites us to join the children, the Hebrews, and all creation in offering our glory, laud, and honor to the King who comes in the Lord’s name and goes on to the Cross for our salvation. This new version includes an organ accompaniment with this beautiful hymn.

Lord, Make Me An Instrument is a contemporary setting of the Prayer of St. Francis, co-written by Francesca LaRosa and Sarah Hart, that turns the beloved “make me a channel of your peace” text into a gently flowing, memorable hymn for parish worship. With a calm, contemplative melody and lyrics that ask God to help us sow love where there is hatred, bring pardon where there is injury, offer hope in despair, and choose understanding over being understood, it invites singers and listeners into a deeper life of mercy, generosity, and self-giving love. Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley is a traditional American Lenten spiritual that meditates on the lonely road Jesus walked toward the Cross and invites each of us to enter that mystery in our own lives. Its simple, steady melody and honest text speak of solitude, trial, and trust in God, reminding us that while no one else can walk our personal path of faith for us, Christ has already gone before us and walks beside us in every valley. This spiritual is especially fitting for Lent and Holy Week, offering a quiet space for reflection and prayer.
