I’m a Christian leader and follower of Jesus who believes God is closest to us in the real world — in joy, in sorrow, in questions, and in the quiet places where faith is tested and renewed. After walking through my own season of loss and rebuilding, writing became a way for me to offer God my honest heart and make sense of the work He was doing in me. What began as weekly emailed reflections to a

small group has grown into a space for anyone who is longing for a faith that is honest, sturdy, and rooted in Scripture. Here you’ll find reflections on faith, leadership, grief, hope, and the everyday places God shows up with mercy and grace. If these reflections encourage your soul or give language to your journey, I’m grateful.

I’ve often been guilty of getting trapped in things that look good - things that meet a basic human need - but are in fact vices, traps that lead to death. How are we to discern between all the things that look good, versus the things that actually bring life to us?

What is the difference between what looks good, and what is good for me? There’s an old comedy bit where the comedian is poking fun at how the media consistently portrays husbands as clumsy neanderthals. The husband is in the background eating a bowl of cereal, exclaiming, “This tastes good… i

Where do you go when you fail? Avoidance? Performance? or Authenticity? Jesus calls us into the light when we mess up because only when we are fully seen can we be fully loved. When we give in to shame, we isolate ourselves from relationship.

The tree in the garden was good. God created it and called it good. But it was not given for eating — it was given for testing. When Adam and Eve ate its fruit, shame entered the human story. Immediately they recognized they were naked — exposed, vulnerable. They covered their bodies and hid the...

In the wake of the tragic and senseless school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, these unsettling words have begun to shape my perspective. How do I respond to tragedy and evil without sacrificing my identity, hope, and joy?

How do we approach the suffering of others? What do we make of senseless tragedy? How does joy intersect with crisis?

I've been reflecting on the outpouring of God's Spirit within the Cree community of Mistissini, and after conversations with some of those close to the community, I am more convinced than ever that God entrusts His Gospel to the poor first, and then to the rich. Not the other way around.

Last week I was on a phone call with someone who had been close to the revival that took place in Mistissini. Mistissini is not a place most Canadians could find on a map. It is geographically remote, socially marginalized, and carries the heavy weight of generational trauma—drug addiction, sexual

What happens when your imagination is robbed by your trauma? God wants to restore your hope.

Can you imagine that?

Science has begun to name something many of us have lived. Recent research has identified a link between unresolved trauma and imagination, among other things. Bessel van der Kolk , in his book The Body Keeps the Score , outlines how unhealed trauma can actually alter brain chemistry in ways that

This was not an easy post to write in part because it grapples with parts of my faith that I don't generally look closely at. I invite you to join me on a journey that may be unsettling because God calls us be unsettled when things are not right.

I am thankful that my hope rests in eternal God, not in the "power" temporary empires.

I’ve been thinking lately about how often the Bible warns God’s people not about weakness—but about proximity to power. In Daniel 7, the most terrifying image is not chaos, or poverty, or suffering. It is the beast of iron—strong, efficient, crushing, and utterly inhuman. A power that devour...

When Elijah asked God to take his life, God made him a meal.

What if rest is not a failure of faith, but an expression of it?

When I walked through my season of burnout a few years ago, I found myself unable to function at the level I expected of myself. By the time I hit crisis, I could barely think, let alone do anything meaningful. For someone who had built his life on thinking clearly and acting decisively, this was de

The most dangerous words in leadership might be: “This is how we’ve always done it.”

Where are you holding on to the dangers of familiar but untested thinking?

I remember when I was contemplating university, my father told me he had read somewhere that students who leave home for post-secondary studies are found to have a higher likelihood of success—not because they are smarter or more capable, but because they are already learning how to engage with th...

Happy New Year! I don't know abut you but I always seem to start my new year a little sluggish from too much holiday eating and too little movement! Does my good health really matter to God though? Doesn't he just care about my soul? Join me to think through the connection between health and godliness ⬇️

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not the picture of good health. I don’t exercise enough. I don’t always eat well. I don’t sleep as much as I should. And yet, I’m increasingly convinced that there is a deep and often-ignored connection between good health and godliness . We cannot hope...

Joseph was not a quiet side character in the Christmas story; his actions demonstrated great courage and ushered in a new justice that aligned with the poor, meek, and marginalized.

When we read the Christmas story, it’s easy for our minds to camp on the wonder of that night—and rightly so. Angels. Glory. A child laid in a manger. But before there was wonder, there was risk. Before there was worship, there was shame. The Son of God came to two young people under a cloud of ...

When it’s cold, you can put on a fur coat… or you can light a fire. One keeps you warm. The other changes the temperature. God didn’t respond to a cold world by putting on a coat. He lit a fire. That’s the story of Christmas.

There’s an old saying: when it’s cold outside, you can either put on a fur coat — or make a fire. One keeps you warm. The other changes the environment.
