Rooted to Flourish Part 3.

Abiding Before Flourishing
Text: Colossians 2:6–7 NIV.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
A branch can only flourish as long as it remains connected to the tree. Cut the branch away from its source, and eventually it becomes dry, weak, and lifeless. Jesus used this exact picture to explain our relationship with Him. In John 15:5, Jesus said: “I am the vine, ye are the branches…” Then He made a powerful statement: “He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.” The secret of fruitfulness is connection.
God has not called you to flourish independently of Him. He has called you to flourish through Him. Your strength, wisdom, peace and purpose are all in Christ. is in Christ. Your ability to produce lasting fruit is in Christ. You were never designed to live disconnected from your Source. Everything a branch needs comes from the vine. The branch does not struggle to manufacture its own life. It simply remains connected. This is an important spiritual principle. Sometimes we become so focused on trying harder, achieving more, and solving everything ourselves that we forget the Source. Jesus said: “Without me ye can do nothing.” This does not mean you are incapable of doing ordinary things. It means that lasting spiritual fruitfulness cannot be produced apart from Christ.
You can have talent without Christ. You can have intelligence without Christ. You can have opportunities without Christ. You can have resources without Christ. But true kingdom fruitfulness requires connection to Him. Today, remind yourself: “Jesus is my Source.”
There is a difference between being connected and being rooted. A branch may be connected temporarily.
But roots indicate depth. Colossians 2:7 says: “Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith…” God wants depth in your relationship with Him. He does not want you to know Him only when things are going well.
He wants you to know Him in the valley. Know Him in the waiting season. Know Him in uncertainty. Know Him when prayers seem delayed. Know Him when doors close. Know Him when people disappoint you. Rooted believers don’t abandon God when circumstances change. Their relationship with Christ is deeper than their circumstances.
Jesus repeatedly uses the word “abide” in John 15. To abide means to remain, dwell, continue, or stay. It speaks of consistency. Your relationship with Christ should not be seasonal. Don’t seek God only when you have a problem. Don’t pray only when you need a miracle. Don’t open your Bible only when you need an answer. Don’t worship only when everything is going well. Develop a daily relationship with Jesus. Spend time in His presence. The deeper your relationship becomes, the stronger your roots become. Ephesians 3:17 says:”That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love…” God wants Christ to become the foundation of your inner life. When Christ is your foundation, your identity is not determined by people’s opinions. Your value is not determined by your achievements. Your confidence is not determined by your possessions. When your foundation is Christ, everything around you changes.
Meditate on this: When you abide with Christ, the challenges of life are not able to overcome you. Philippians 4:13 declares, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” A deeply rooted tree responds differently to strong winds than a shallow-rooted tree. The wind may shake it, but its roots hold it. When your roots are deep in Christ, you don’t have to collapse. Psalm 16:8 says: “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” As you abide, you will avoid the danger of activities without intimacy. The greatest thing is not merely doing something for Christ. It is knowing Christ. Never allow ministry, business, success, responsibilities, or even legitimate activities to replace your personal relationship with Jesus (Philippians 3:10).
Faith Confession:
I declare that Christ is my Source, and I am deeply rooted in Him. My faith is established, anchored, stable and strong. I will not be moved by circumstances. I will not be disconnected from my Source. I abide in Christ, and Christ abides in me. The life of Christ is being expressed through me. I am growing spiritually, and
becoming more like Jesus. I am producing good fruit.
My life will glorify God continually. I am rooted in Christ to flourish in Jesus name. Amen.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for Jesus Christ, my Source and my Life. Today, I choose to abide in Christ.
I don’t want a superficial relationship with you. I want deep roots. I want to know you and love you more. I want to hear your voice more clearly. I want your Word to dwell richly within me. Help me remain connected to you in every season. Let your character be formed in me. Let the fruit of your Spirit become increasingly visible through my life. Deepen my hunger for you and your word. Let my life will produce fruit that brings glory to Your name in Jesus name. Amen.
