Happy Sunday morning! This is a reminder if you need one that WE ARE NOT GATHERING TODAY!

This is the last looking back and tomorrow we’ll take a look forward but for today, here’s the question to reflect upon:

Is there a day you would like to go back and have over again?

This could because the day was so wonderful you want to relive it… good news - as you remember it that’s kind of what you are doing, and as you add gratitude into that then you get to relive the joy.

It could also be a day that was hard. I’m sorry that time machines do not exist, that there is no way to go back and redo it but there is an opportunity to go back in your mind - with Jesus - and see if there is something He can reframe for you. Even if it is just that you realize that He was with you - because He always is! And that part is good news for everyone!

There is no gathering of our church community this Sunday. We don’t meet on long weekends because we think rest and play are important too.

I know that you know this but saying it again can’t hurt. The presence of God is everywhere. So whether we are gathered in a room together, on zoom together or scattered as we will be tomorrow matters not. God’s presence is everywhere.

Where has the presence of God surprised you this Summer?

‘Life doesn’t have to be lived on grand mountaintops for it to be meaningful. We can find holiness in the small, moss-covered rocks along the paths of our everyday lives. We can see God at work right where we are: in our ordinary routines, in the faces of our family and friends, and—especially—in nature.’ Kara Lawler

We aren’t meeting together this Sunday as it is a long weekend and our habit is to pause our gatherings. This pause allows our community the freedom to explore, live, breathe, and have time with family and friends, however you choose to do that.

We are a few days away from school going back and it makes me think that summer is ending, which for many it is. Some of us have the joy of extending summer and holidays for a little bit longer but whether you are getting ready for a new school year or just carrying on let’s take this opportunity to reflect on what has been for the next few days.

We have been looking for ‘Wisdom in the World’ this summer. What wisdom have you picked up during the past few months?

Take a moment to think back over the summer and what you have learned or experienced that has been wisdom for you.

If you want to share your wisdom below, feel free, if you want to do it more privately in our heartbeat app that is open to you too.
If you are part of our community and want an invite to join that app please ask Sarah. We moved off facebook for a more secure location for our social space.

The passage for Lectio Divina today is by Job, in response to those gathered to ‘comfort’ him. He said:

Ask the animals what God does.
     They will teach you.
Or ask the birds in the sky.
     They will tell you.
Or speak to the earth. It will teach you.
Or let the fish in the ocean educate you.
Are there any of these creatures that don’t know
what the powerful hand of the Lord has done?
He holds the life of every creature in his hand.
He controls the breath of every human being.
Job 12:7-10

First slow read: Is there part of what Job says that draws your attention?

Second read through: Why do you think Job might have responded in this way?

Third read: What do you know of ‘what the powerful hand of the Lord has done’?

Take one more slow read through and then go outside and listen for a word of instruction from the creatures God has made.

‘The earth, plants, and animals could all survive without us - but we could not survive without them. In the community of creation we are the needy and the greedy.’
Sarah Pickering

We gathered in a wooded space just off the path beside Fish Trap Creek in Abbotsford. Nestled in the sanctuary of the trees beneath the sky. This morning was about noticing, listening to creation as our teacher.

You can watch the whole of our time at Fish Trap Creek on Vimeo or listen to the audio on our church podcast which is available on Podbean, Apple podcasts and Spotify. Links in the stories today or on our website homepage.

Meet at 10:30am at the covered space beside Fish Trap Creek near the baseball diamond at Ellwood Park, 31580 MacLure Road.

Wild church is an opportunity to be in creation as we worship our Creator. We will spend time together and set our intentions and take an invitation out into the space around us.  We will give that time to the more-than-humans to be our teachers and when we return together we will share what we have received and share communion together.

If you are joining on zoom you will be part of the beginning and end and take the invitation out into the wild space where you are, be that as simple as your back yard, or even balcony.

But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you;
let the ducks tell you what’s going on. Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics. Job 12:7-8

Wild Church tomorrow, letting creation take the lead and teach us the basics about Creator and Their creation.

Fish Trap Creek, 10:30am
We’ll be on zoom too and invite you to step out into your wild space as we take some quiet time to listen in the middle of our gathering.
