Living Hope Christian Reformed Church We're a church, with the goal of Growing in Hope Together Through JESUS.

Today is Pentecost Sunday which happens 50 days after Easter, and it celebrates the beginning of the Church. "Pentecost, with the gift of languages and the power of the Spirit, points powerfully to the worldwide spread of the Gospel. The sin-filled unity of the Tower of Babel was undone by the confusion of languages, but at Pentecost God creates a grace-filled unity in Jesus Christ that extends to 'every tribe, language, people, and nation'." (CRCNA)

Watch this "Call to Worship" video featuring of some of the languages represented in our Living Hope church body as well as artwork from the kids!

"So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses . . . to the ends of the earth.”

When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus… will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

— Acts 1:6–11 (NIV)

SERVE PRAYER PARTNERS
As our youth and leaders prepare to head to Fort Collins, Colorado, for a week of service, I have a request for the congregation to provide prayer support for our team. A wonderful practical way to let our team know that they are being covered in prayer is by becoming a prayer partner for a member of our team. I am looking for 17 members of the congregation -- one for each team member – to take up the task of praying specifically for them. This task involves some preparation; to pre-write 8 notes that they will receive in the morning each day (with a little treat, if you’d like). I want to invite you to prayerfully consider which member of our team you would like to provide these prayer notes for. If you feel called to be a prayer partner, please contact Pastor Ben!

SUMMER BOOK CLUB
Are you concerned about an increasingly secular society? Are you wondering why so many people have left the church in European and Canadian contexts? Do you have questions or doubts that you don’t know what to do with?
Come join our book club, where we will read and reflect on James K. A. Smith’s book "How (Not) to be Secular" together.

We will meet three times: once near the end of May, once in June, and once in August. What date we meet depends on who signs up and what dates work best for those who are interested. If you want to be part of this, let Pastor Steve know and find a copy of the book!

House of James says you can order "How (Not) to be Secular" through their website, but it will take about 7 days to come in. There are used copies online for those looking to find a copy at a bargain.

Read more about this book study in the weekly email or our spring/summer newsletter that you can find in your church mailbox.

PROFESSION OF FAITH
A milestone in the Reformed tradition is the opportunity to make a public profession of faith. It is a privilege to walk alongside our brothers and sisters as they stand before the congregation and declare that they believe the promises of God are good, and are for them, and that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Saviour. Please keep our youth in your prayer as they discern their hearts and step forward into this milestone.

HE IS RISEN!

Matthew 28:1-10
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

GOOD FRIDAY - THE WEIGHT OF SIN | APRIL 3, 7PM

Tonight, we invite you to a quiet and reflective service centred on the cross of Christ. Through Scripture, story, and song, and coming to the Table together, we will consider the weight we carry - and the One who bore it for us. We will also partake of the Lord’s Supper. Come and prepare your heart as we remember Christ’s sacrifice and reflect on the hope found in Him.

You’re invited.
