Circle your calendars for Trinity's Open House and UCW Spring Sale on Saturday, May 9 from 9 am to noon. This is an important opportunity to show our community that we are a vibrant and welcoming church that could be their spiritual home.

For the UCW Sale, we will have Plants, Baking, Jewellery, Puzzles, a small Crafts section (sewn, knitted items), Scone Cafe and Garden Decor. Please collect any of these items you may have for the sale.

We need volunteers to set-up on. May 8, be at the tables for sales and clean up on May 9 Later this month, ways for you to help to make the Open House successful will also be advertised (greeters, delivering invitations).

If you have questions, email Rose Soneff, [email protected]

UCW Tribute to Wendy Taylor
I know Wendy firstly as a valued member of our Choir, where she helps to brighten our Sunday morning practices. Many years ago, she was a member of the junior choir, here at Trinity, under the direction of Faye Hansen. The sale of her amazing greeting cards has contributed greatly to our funds, helping us
to continue to support those in our community and beyond. During COVID, a difficult time for fundraising, Wendy tried to accommodate selling the cards online – by topic, combination, formats.

Wendy joined the Harmony group during the last couple of years and is known for her enthusiastic participation, whatever the topic of the month might be. She recently helped organize our Spring and Christmas lunches and loves to inject fun into activities.

It is a privilege to honour Wendy with her Life Membership Pin.

Lorna Marchuk, 2025 UCW Life Member Recipient

Lorna’s enthusiasm and love for her family, especially her grandchildren, is unparalleled. She has shown the same care and support during her career as an OT while working with people with health challenges. Lorna is still in touch with some of her clients even today. Her friends describe her as being very caring and loving … of being a friend that you can always count on in time of need …and very good at keeping confidences.

Lorna shows the same care and support for her church family. She was raised in the United Church and her Mom was very active in the UCW … and while in Abbotsford, she has supported the work and life of Gladwin Heights and of TMUC … and of the wider church community. She regularly attends ecumenical church events much like the World Religion Conference held recently at TMUC.

The mission of the UCW is to express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service and Lorna exemplifies this. She is a member of the Friendship Unit and serves on the TMUC UCW Executive as the representative to the Fraser Area UCW Executive. Lorna is a Member at Large on the TMUC Board and serves on the coffee committee. A very important role for her is as a member of the Pastoral Care Committee. She assists June with noting the prayers of the congregation and following up with hospital visits and with greeting cards. At her hospital visits, she will read from the bible and assist with prayers and make sure that anyone needing a ride for a hospital visit will have one. When Regina Dalton was in Hospice, Lorna spent a great deal of time with her. She was a tremendous comfort to Regina in her last days.

We are incredibly thankful to have Lorna as a part of the UCW, and her passion for helping those in need is inspiring. We congratulate her on becoming a Life member and wish her success in all her future endeavours of witness, study, fellowship and service.

Tribute for Alison Donnelly, 2026 UCW LIfe Member

Alison has been involved in helping create the UCW page as an avenue to share the activities of UCW since 2020, or suggest ways to involve members. She has been a Fellowship Coffee Team member for many years. She spearheaded the last 4 Cookie Walks that were just before and after COVID.

Considering she works full time, UCW is appreciative of her contributions and generosity including wonderful peanut butter sandwich cookies for our bake sales.

UCW holds AGM on January 31, 2026 with Hieke Morton from the Gathering Markit

Over 35 attendees enjoyed the AGM. The AGM highlighted an eventful year, an In Memoriam to our friend, Regina Dalton and a tribute to "Friends of UCW" Randy S, Jean J and Ruth B for their years of support to UCW. Morton, We thanked outgoing UCW Executive members Trudi J, our Secretary, and Marcia F, Past President and Coffee Fellowship Coordinator, and welcomed our new 2026 Executive. Hieke Morton, the Founder and Executive Director of Gathering Markit, a nonprofit grocery store offering dignified access to affordable food, provided an excellent presentation. A wonderful potluck lunch was enjoyed.

Tributes for the Friends of UCW, Jan 31, 2026

“Thanks” sometimes are not enough to acknowledge the support and love shared with UCW when we have had events, and especially need help. The list of those folks is long but today we would like to “Thank” three people, who have made a difference to UCW. I would like to call upon Randy Scott, Ruth Bushman and Jean Jones to come forward.

Randy Scott:

I don’t think I can recall a time that Randy ever said “No” to a request for UCW if he was available and not out of town. He sidled up to me and asked if shortbread and cinnamon buns might sell at our UCW Bake Sale. The cookies and buns, not only sold, they flew off the table. I for one, have been a recipient and I can tell you they are indeed delicious. In August 2024, Randy was one of the volunteers that helped refurbish the lounge, badly in need of painting. It was brutally hot to paint in those three days, but throughout, he and Don Carlson cracked jokes and made the whole experience less tedious. At other events, he helps with set-up and clean up. He’s hauled away old furniture from the lounge and made the circuit around thrift shops to look for a recipient. The list goes on. We are thankful that he is a Friend of UCW.

Ruth Bushman

Linda Garrett and Ruth have spearheaded the sale of the "Garden Decor" at the UCW Spring Sale. Her talent can be seen with some of the items she brings for sale too such as her tea-cup creations and bird houses. Thank you for hours spent setting up, sometimes cleaning off and displaying all the items for our sales. My favourite recollection of Ruth was when she brought her sisters to the UCW High Tea. All of them were beautifully dressed for the occasion and generously topped up our sales, so that we exceeded $1,000 in revenue.

Jean Jones

When I asked about Jean, three words kept being repeated: generous, talented and kind. Shares her talent of painting and her love of gardening generously with UCW. For as long as I have known her, she has contributed hundreds of dollars towards many of the charities supported by UCW through the sale of her paintings and plants that she lovingly pots for our Spring Sale. She has often been at the plant section, working very hard but with always a smile. Many UCW members are blessed to be invited for a garden tour, sometimes lunch and often a little gift, like rhubarb. I think she could rival Brian Minter with her gardening expertise. On her trips, she often takes pictures and then later paints them. We are very thankful that she is a Friend of UCW.

The UCW Christmas Baking, Craft and Treasures Sale, will be held after service on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 am to 1 pm, in the Conference Room, where Sunday School is held. In the Adjacent room where Fellowship Coffee is hosted, The Advent Turkey Lunch will be held simultaneously. More info on the lunch is provided elsewhere.

If you wish to donate items for Christmas Baking, attached is the Bake Sale Prices for this year. Please package your baking preferably in a container that people can see through. If you can label the item (include if it contains NUTS) with the name and price, great! Drop off items on Saturday during Set Up and pricing from 9:30 am to 12 noon. DO NOT BRING THEM ON SUNDAY MORNING BEFORE SERVICE BECAUSE THE CHOIR WILL BE PRACTICING IN THE SAME AREA AND SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED.

If you are a crafter and would like a table, contact Kathy Burchill explaining the type of craft and how much space is needed. We have limited space and tables, so if possible, we ask people to share a craft table.

If you have Treasures, please bring them on Saturday too with a suggested price.

This year, we will have some items that will be put into a UCW Silent Auction. There is no auction associated with the lunch this year. These auction items differ from the Treasures as they are more costly items and the donors have a minimum bid suggested. If not sold, they will take them back after the sale.

If you would like to volunteer at any of the tables on the sale day, contact Rose Soneff at [email protected]

Many thanks for considering.I f you have any questions, ask any of the UCW Executive: Rose Soneff, Barb Goyer, Trudi Johnson, Marcia Foreman, Fern Bailes, Edie Hayden, Lorna Marchuk and Kathy Burchill.

as Treasurer of Pacific United Church Women.
-Val Weinert, President of Fraser UCW and Sydney MacPherson, Treasurer, will be our
delegates at the National UCW AGM in September in Mississauga, ON. After attending
the AGM for six years, I thought it was only fair someone else should have the opportunity
to attend.

As Bugs Bunny used to say, "That's all, Folks!"...for now any way.

Blessings to all. Be safe and healthy.
In peace,
