DAY 12/12 FASTING AND PRAYER
Matthew 24:42
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
Matthew 24 contains Jesus' teaching about the destruction of the temple, the signs of the end times, His second coming, and the importance of being spiritually prepared.
Jesus tells His disciples that the magnificent temple in Jerusalem will eventually be destroyed. When they ask Him about the signs of His coming and the end of the age, Jesus warns them about false prophets, false messiahs, wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, betrayal, and increasing wickedness.
Jesus also teaches that the Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, and then the end will come. He warns believers not to be deceived by people claiming to be Christ or announcing that His coming has already happened.
Jesus describes His return as sudden and visible, like lightning that flashes across the sky. No one knows the exact day or hour except the Father. Therefore, believers must remain watchful and ready.
The chapter concludes with the Parable of the Faithful and Wicked Servants. The faithful servant remains responsible and obedient while waiting for his master's return, while the wicked servant becomes careless and abusive because he thinks the master is delayed.
