TITLE: The Power of Now
PREACHER: Apostle Gabriel Motswagole
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 90:12
"Teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we may grow in wisdom."
Allow me to talk to you tonight, to talk to your spirit.
1. Our God is the God of Now. There is power in the now. There is power in today. We serve the God of now. He describes himself as omnipresent. To Moses He said, “Go and tell them, ‘I AM WHO I AM’
In the beginning, the Word was released and the now took place. God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. That light is still here today.
Your now can affect everything in your life. Your life is built by the decisions you make now. You are what you are because of a now decision. You are a product of now.
2. Faith and Decisions Are Now Things.
The Bible says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for.” Faith is a now thing because you apply it now. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through—faith must be applied now. When you apply it now, you allow God to move.
A one minute phone call can ruin your whole day and frustrate you from morning to evening. What a waste of time! If you fail to manage it today, tomorrow can be miserable.
Now is the preparation for tomorrow. The decision of now can affect your entire life. Many of us are suffering because we failed to apply wisdom in the decisions of now.
In the Garden, the serpent’s temptation led to a decision that brought suffering to generations. Someone failed to make the right decision then, and it affected life today. If I am poor, somewhere I failed to take advantage of an opportunity I was given. My poverty is not my parents’ fault. I was given days and years to see life.
I’ve realized that if I fail to do something right now, it becomes a habit. What you started years ago and couldn’t stop is now a burden for you and can affect your children.
David was born out of wedlock, abused by his brothers, and left in the bush while they stayed at home. In that time of suffering—his now—he learned about God’s protection and provision. Some children who lived well failed to make right choices later, but David learnt that God can protect and provide.
We are built by moments and challenges. When people kick you, it can mould your character. David was kicked, but a strong man was being built. Even when you sleep hungry, if you know the power of now, you know you are not alone. The challenge is not to make wrong decisions when you face pressure.
3. Each Day Is a Gift.
“Teach us to realize the brevity of life, teach us to value time.”
You can wake up disturbed by one thing and miss the whole day.
When Jesus taught us to pray, He said, “Give us this day our daily bread.” A day itself is bread from God. Lamentations 3:23 says His mercies are renewed every morning. So the Lord renews His mercies daily for you.
Isaiah 40:31 says those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. At the right time, He will give it to you.
God can delay what was released when you were born. Jesus was born powerful, but He didn’t perform miracles until He was 30. At 12 He was in the temple and saw that woman who needed help, but He waited and trusted the process. He healed her when he was aged 30. Trust God now and let Him handle the process. At the appointed time, He will release it to you.
Wisdom is the application of knowledge. Life is a precious gift, but if you don’t understand its purpose, you will misuse it and die before your time. Some live as if they gave themselves life. Learn to take care of this precious thing God gave you. When you are wise, you know how to do things right.
4. Honour and Covering.
Ephesians 6:1 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”
God places people in your life as spiritual covering and guidance. Hear them.
“Honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land.” Your parents brought you into life and they carry grace. If your spiritual parent blesses you but you don’t respect your biological parents, you cut yourself short.
David’s father left him in the bush, but David never fought his father. Because of his honour, the grace of the Lord rested on him.
Whatever we face today is often because of what was done before. The patterns of parents carry through life, but you can stop them by receiving Christ and becoming a new creation. The character passed down from your father is cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
Key takeaway: Your tomorrow is being built by the decision you make right now. Number your days, walk in wisdom, and trust God in the present moment.
