“Faith does not speak according to circumstances; it speaks according to the nature and character of God. When we align our words with His Word, we align our lives with His possibilities.” —Bishop Onkeme Letshwiti
At times, the way we speak to certain people is influenced by our desire to fit in, not offend them, or simply because that is how we grew up and what we have become accustomed to over time. These people may be family members, friends, colleagues, superiors or anyone around us. It really does not matter who they are. As believers, our ultimate allegiance must always remain with God and His Word.
There is often pressure to adjust our language, values, and conduct to suit those around us. Sometimes we are tempted to compromise our convictions so that we can be accepted, understood, or appreciated by others. However, as children of God, we should never feel ashamed, embarrassed, or apologetic about speaking and living according to our faith. Our lifestyle demands that we live as believers because we belong to Christ.
The Bible reminds us in Romans 12:2 not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This means that our speech, our attitudes, and our actions should not be dictated by the culture around us but by the Word of God within us. We are called to stand out, not blend in. We are called to represent Christ wherever we go.
Another challenge believers face is the temptation to speak according to circumstances. When situations appear difficult, impossible, or discouraging, it becomes easy to talk like everyone else. We may begin to speak based on what we see, feel, or hear. Yet faith does not focus on circumstances; faith focuses on God.
Faith always sees the bigger picture. It looks beyond the problem and fixes its eyes on the Creator of heaven and earth. It recognizes that God is above every situation, above every limitation, and above every report that contradicts His Word. Faith understands that God has the final say.
As believers, we are people who take God at His Word because He is faithful. If He has spoken, He will surely bring it to pass. We serve a God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to His power at work in us (Ephesians 3:20). There is nothing too difficult for Him and nothing beyond His ability. God has no record of failing!
God is God all by Himself. He does not need counsel, advice, or assistance from anyone. He is all-wise, all-knowing, and all-powerful. One of His names and attributes is Ezer, meaning Helper. He knows exactly what to do at all times. Before a problem arises, He already knows the solution. Before a need appears, He has already made provision.
Because of this, we must learn to speak as He would speak. We must allow His Word to shape our words. We must declare what He says rather than what circumstances suggest. Our conversations should reflect confidence in God's character and trust in His promises.
We are called to live lives of faith. According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith gives substance to what has not yet manifested and provides evidence before the natural eye can see it. Therefore, we do not speak defeat when God has spoken victory. We do not speak lack when God has promised provision. We do not speak hopelessness when God has given us hope.
Let us remain faithful to God's Word in our speech, our conduct, and our daily living. Let us not be moved by pressure, opinions, or circumstances. Instead, let us be moved by the unchanging Word of God, knowing that the God who promised is faithful and able to perform all that He has spoken.
“Faith does not speak according to circumstances; it speaks according to the nature and character of God. When we align our words with His Word, we align our lives with His possibilities.”
