PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Leader should ask members what they gained from last week lesson

MEMORY VERSE: "And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away; and David rescued his wives." 1 Samuel 30:18

BIBLE TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 30:1-19

[1]And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
[2]And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
[3]So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
[4]Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
[5]And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
[6]And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
[7]And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
[8]And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.
[9]So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
[10]But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.
[11]And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
[12]And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.
[13]And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.
[14]We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.
[15]And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.
[16]And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
[17]And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.
[18]And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
[19]And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: To take territory means gaining access to your ordained inheritance as believers. David suffered great loss when his family, his soldiers' families and their flocks and possessions were taken away by the Amalekites. MEMORY VERSE: "And David said unto Ahimelech, and is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste." 1 Samuel 21:8

BIBLE TEXT: Esther 4:7-14
[7]And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
[8]Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
[9]And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
[10]Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
[11]All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
[12]And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.
[13]Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
[14]For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

LESSON INTRODUCTION: David ran to the Priest for food and weapons as he was on the run from king Saul. The priest being inquisitive wanted to know why a giant slayer was all by himself and without any weapon. David just told him it was because the king's business required haste. The king's business requires haste could also means the king's business is urgent.

LESSON AIM: To make members understand what King's business is

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to;
◆ Know what the business of the king entails.
◆ Know do's and don'ts in king's business.

TEXT REVIEW: Esther 4:7-14
◆ In king's business, there is no provision to be afraid of any challenging issues of life.
◆ If you refuse in you to do His business, your relevance may be withdrawn.
◆ To every placement, there is an important reason.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHAT IS KING'S BUSINESS?
King's business is God's business or kingdom assignment which is principally the salvation of mankind and other works in His vineyard for the expansion of His kingdom here on earth. Luke 9:2 Believers have received the mandate to carry out God's agenda through the help of Holy Spirit and the bible.

Let's check other king's business requested from us as believers.
✔ Declare peace to every home you enter. Luke 10:5
✔ Heal the sick Luke 10:9, Matthew 10:8
Thread upon serpent and scorpions with God's imputed power. Luke 10:19
✔ Cast out the devils
✔ Raise the dead. Matthew 10:8

LESSON OUTLINE TWO: DO'S AND DON'T'S IN KINGDOM BUSINESS.
DO'S
◆ You must be born again. John 3:3
◆ There must be hunger and thirst for righteousness. Matthew 5:6
◆ You must be a fruitful and profitable steward. Matthew 25:20.
◆ Be positioned to be useful, no complain. Esther 4:14
◆ Win more harvesters to king's business. John 1:40-42

DON'T'S
◆ If the business of earthly kings is urgent, how much more is the business of the King of kings
◆ Don't be lackadaisical in doing the King's business. John 9:4
◆ Avoid procrastination, don't be slothful. Proverbs 26:13
◆ Never do king's business because of filthy gains. 1 Peter 5:2
◆ Don't do the work of kingdom with pride, James 4:6
◆ Don't make yourself an hindrances to divine task. Acts 13;6-11

SUMMARY: God's business is urgent, don't procrastinate.

CONCLUSION: The more we devote our strength and ability from God to the king business, the results will be enormous and the reward from God will be great. Refusing to engage in God's business has serious effects and punishment-dethronement and replacement.

1. Father, make all believer power packed for your use,
2. Father, make your purpose for this end time be fulfilled.
3. Father, let your kingdom come over your churches.

THEME: SEEK GOD FIRST

MEMORISE:

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a jdry and thirsty land, where no water is; Psalm 63:1

READ: Psalms 63:1-8

1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

MESSAGE

The story I shared yesterday reminds me of three Ugandan boys I met at the Christian programme in Kenya. Those boys were probably hungrier for God than any of us at that programme. During break times, while everyone was buying sandwiches, those three boys would sit together, singing praises to God. I asked why they never ate when everyone else ate, and they responded that food was not their concern. Firstly, they had no money to buy food. Secondly, they said they were praying to return safely and not get arrested or even executed by the then-Ugandan military ruler upon their return. For three days, they had eaten nothing and were just glad to be there. For the rest of our stay, whatever little Í had, I shared with them. I told them to write to me when they got back home safely, and they did to the glory of God.

Your hunger for God should be such that you won't even remember to eat when it is time to seek Him. You should be so hungry for God that you are willing to risk your life just to know Him more. I get amazed anytime we call a fast, and some people grumble. They are not hungry for God enough to fast for just a few days in the year to draw closer to Him.

In the 1970s, I used to gather some RCCG youths in a place called 'Youth Camp'. Accommodation and feeding were usually included in our payment for the venue, but people rarely cared to eat after the sessions. I usually had to beg them to eat so we would not waste the food. They didn't care much for food, they only wanted the word of God. Jeremiah 15:16 says:

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for l am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

What exactly are the things you are hungry for? Food! Fame? Money? Put them all aside and let your hunger and thirst every day be for God. Matthew 6:33 says:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Beloved, please get your priorities right. David, in our Bible reading today, said that his soul will follow hard after God. Can you say the same for yourself?

PRAYER POINT

Father, let there be an insatiable hunger for You in my heart.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Sarnuel 4-7

HYMN 8: I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR

1. I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.

5. I need Thee every hour,
Most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE : SUNDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2023

THEME : PAY YOUR VOWS

MEMORISE: When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Ecclesiastes 5:4

READ : ECCLESIASTES 5:4-7

4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God

MESSAGE

Psalm 50:14-15 says that when you pay your vows, you can call on God in the day of trouble, and He will answer. In other words, if you make a vow and you fail to redeem it, do not be surprised if you call on God in the day of trouble and He does not answer you.

Today, many Christians just make vows casually. Many a time, even when making the vow, they have no intention of paying it.
Don’t postpone the payment of your vow when you can do it now. God sees those who do that as fools.
A vow is like a deal. When you make a deal with someone and you don’t fulfil your part of it, it is like stealing from that person.

It is foolish to try to steal from God because what you are keeping away was provided by Him in the first place.
If you made a deal with God, fulfil your part speedily. Worse still, some people make vows because they want the Pastor to pray for them at that moment, without any intention to fulfil it.
How can you lie to God to receive blessings from Him? Is that not the height of foolishness?

Once you make a vow to God and the devil sees that you want to pay that vow, he will start telling you to defer it to later, saying that you don’t have enough yet or that God understands.
Don’t listen to his lies so that God doesn’t see you as a fool.
One interesting thing about fulfilling a vow made to God is that the One you made it to has the ability to give you far more than you have promised to give Him. If you fulfil your vow, He would pour His blessings on you, but if you refuse to, He would also withhold what He would have given you in return.
Hannah made a vow to God that she would give Him her son if He would bless her with one.
This was after many painful years of waiting, and she didn’t know if she would ever have another child again.
Imagine her holding her child in her hands at last and then giving the child over to God.
Going back home without her child must have been a great sacrifice. She did it because that was her vow, and God gave her five more children in return (1 Samuel 2:21). Job 22:27-29 says it is those who pay their vows that can decree a thing, and it is established. It is foolishness not to pay your vows.

ACTION POINT:

Pay your vows today and ask for God’s mercy for those you made and never paid.
