and, subject to the provisions of this Constitution, if any other law is inconsistent with this Constitution, this Constitution, shall prevail and the other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void.
(The Constitution is Supreme law)

The supremacy of Christ is a doctrine surrounding the authority of Jesus and His God-nature. In the simplest of terms, to affirm the supremacy of Christ is to affirm that Jesus is God.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines supreme as “highest in rank or authority” or “highest in degree or quality.” In essence, there is none better. The supreme of something is its ultimate. Jesus is the ultimate in power, glory, authority, and importance. Jesus’ supremacy over all is developed biblically primarily in Hebrews and Colossians.

A main theme of the book of Hebrews is explaining the work of Jesus in the context of the Old Testament system. Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament Jewish traditions and roles.
Another main theme of Hebrews is that Jesus does not simply represent a new way of doing things. Rather, He is supreme. He is the actual fulfillment of the old way of doing things and is therefore greater than those ways. Concerning the temple system under the Mosaic Law, the author of Hebrews writes,
€ (Hebrews 8:6). “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.”

In essence, Jesus is greater than the Old Testament system. He both encompasses and supersedes the old way of doing things. This is evident in the many comparisons of Jesus to Old Testament roles and rituals. For instance, we are told that “because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:24–25).
Jesus, therefore, encompasses the Old Testament priesthood and is supreme over it.

€ Hebrews explains that Christ is supreme over more than just roles and systems. Hebrews 1:3a says, “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.” Similarly, Colossians 2:9 says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.” Essentially, Jesus is God.

€ Colossians 1:15–23 is labeled “The Supremacy of Christ” in some Bibles. In this passage, Paul makes it plain that Jesus is over all things. Christ is called “the image of the invisible God” and “the firstborn over all creation” (Colossians 1:15).

“Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John‬ ‭14:9‬ ‭NASB

The word firstborn may seem confusing. It does not imply that Christ was created (as in the doctrine of the Jehovah’s Witnesses). Instead, the term firstborn refers to a position of authority. To be “firstborn” was to hold an honored position. Paul immediately goes on to explain Jesus’ role in creation:
€. “For by Him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16). This means that Jesus is not created but is Creator. He is God.

Paul goes on to say, “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:17–18).

Paul highlights multiple areas in which Christ has authority—over creation, over the Church, over death, and finally “in everything.” Christ is both before all things and encompasses all things (“in Him all things hold together”). Therefore, Christ is supreme.

This doctrine is essential to our view of and worship of Christ. The supremacy of Christ affirms that Jesus is fully God. He is not simply a man greater than the rest but is truly above all creation, as only God can be. This truth is essential for our salvation. God is infinite and, therefore, our sin against Him is an infinite offense. In order to atone for this offense, the sacrifice must be infinite. Jesus, as God, is infinite and thus an able sacrifice.

Jesus is supreme excludes us from saying that He is only one of many ways to God. He is not just a good moral teacher whom we may choose to follow; rather, He is God, and He is over all. He is the only way and a perfect being.
Jesus’ supremacy also makes it evident that we cannot atone for our own sins. In fact, “it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4).

Jesus both fulfilled and replaced that system. Salvation is not based on works
(see Ephesians 2:1–10). And, once we are saved, Jesus’ supremacy shows us that we cannot aspire to be like Him of our own strength. Jesus is wholly other, supreme over all. Christians are called to be like Jesus, but this is through the work of the Holy Spirit (Philippians 2:12–13; Romans 😎.

The supremacy of Jesus teaches us that He is not simply a spiritual being above the rest. Paul tells us that through Him all things visible and invisible, in heaven and on earth, i.e., spiritual and physical, were created (see Colossians 1:16).

Hebrews 1:4 calls Jesus superior to the angels. This truth negates any tendencies toward angel worship. Jesus created the angels and is above them. We are explicitly told He is greater than they. Therefore, we need only worship Jesus. Similarly, that Jesus created the things of earth means that creation is not worthy of our worship. Jesus is supreme over both the physical and spiritual realms, thus giving both arenas importance while still remaining sovereign over them.

When we understand the supremacy of Christ, we have a more accurate view of Him. We more fully understand the depth of His love; we are more able to receive and to respond to His love.
Theologians believe that Colossians was written, in part, to combat heresies rising in Colossae. It seemed fitting to Paul to affirm the supremacy of Christ in order to quash these misled beliefs. He affirmed Christ’s supremacy, His lordship, and His sufficiency for us.
Hebrews explains the link between the Old Testament covenant and the new covenant of Jesus. It reveals the old system as a shadow of the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The supremacy of Christ is central to an accurate view of His Person, His work, our status as believers, and the Kingdom.

NOW KNOW YE THEREFORE:
We the Inheritors of and Successors to this Family of Islands, recognizing the Supremacy of God and believing in the Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of the Individual, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM IN SOLEMN PRAISE the Establishment of a Free and Democratic Sovereign Nation founded on Spiritual values

“Life and Death Are in the Power of the Tongue”

The Bible is the Word of God. Whether I believe it or not does not change the truth it contains and the eternal destiny for humanity.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Maybe you’ve said it, but do you believe it? Someone revised this into, “Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts.”

Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” The tongue can be used as a weapon to harm and destroy or as a tool to build and heal.

What kind of impact do your words have?

A tragic story of a teenaged girl who began an online relationship with an admirer in a cyberspace chat room. The boyfriend, who was really her neighbor posing as someone else, broke up with her and wrote that the world would be a better place without her. The girl read those words and killed herself.

[Death by a thousand cut.]
Few of those who now use the phrase "death by a thousand cuts" will be aware of its origins in lingchi, a highly unpleasant form of ex*****on used in Imperial China, which involved the slicing of the convicted criminal's flesh until death ensued.

Lingchi (Chinese ), translated variously as the slow process, the lingering death, or slow slicing, and also known as death by a thousand cuts, was a form of torture and ex*****on used in China from roughly 900 CE up until the practice ended around the early 1900s. It was also used in Vietnam and Korea. In this form of ex*****on, a knife was used to methodically remove portions of the body over an extended period of time, eventually resulting in death.

We don’t use a knife or a sharp instrument now, but our tongues are just as deadly in carving up someone’s character, with repeated attacks.
Or;
When has an acid tongue burned you?
Or
Some kind words refreshed your soul?

We’ve all wished we could retract a thoughtless jab or had the perfect word to say at the right time.
The Bible tells us the types of words that bless and curse.
What traits differentiate a life-giving tongue from a destructive tongue?
The Bible shows the difference between a life-giving tongue and a destructive one.
Using the words BLESS and CURSE let’s consider the power each of our tongues wield.

Building Critical
Loving Unwholesome
Encouraging Ridiculing
Soothing Sharp
Spirit-filled Evil

Do my words build up or cut down?

Building
Building words instruct, improve, build up, edify, affirm, or promote growth. We are commanded,
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29 NIV).

Sincere compliments and words of affirmation strengthen people’s positive traits. God’s Word builds us up by telling us who we are in Christ and how to live victoriously.

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Critical
In contrast, critical words judge and find fault. They tear down, beat up, and focus on short coming, defects and inadequacies. Words are more painful and powerful than the physical. A beating we get over that quickly, negative words some are still living with and they are grown adults.
Childhood saying: sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
WHAT A LIE.

“With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor,” PROVERBS‬ ‭11:9‬a

A daughter tried to give her critical mother the perfect Christmas gift. With little money, she listed ten projects her mother wanted done and promised to complete them. When her mother opened her gift and read the list she said, “Is that all?” With three small words she crushed her daughter.

Do you want to be known as a problem identifier or an encourager? Criticism may come more easily than craftsmanship. Be a craftsman anyway.

Loving
Lovingwords reflect God’s nature. Love is the hallmark of a believer and the perfect regulator of the tongue.
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”JOHN‬ ‭13:35‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.”
‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭13:1-3‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Love seeks a person’s eternal best and tells the truth in a constructive way and a loving way because you can speak truth and be mean in your presentation, so attitudes is important. Love It never flatters, but warns, confronts, and protects.

“but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.”
‭‭EPHESIANS‬ ‭4:15, 25‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law”
(Romans 13:10).
“An open rebuke is better than hidden love!” (Proverbs 27:5).
“Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy”
(Proverbs 27:6)
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend” (Proverbs 27:17).

Check the motive behind what you want to say. Sincere love blesses people.

Unwholesome

Are my words loving or unwholesome?
Unwholesome words are the opposite of loving words. They make unfair comparisons. “Why can’t you be like…” (in any relationship never begin or used ).
They use people as a dumping ground for worry, needless chatter, and negative information. Such talk harms people’s mental and moral well-being, kills people spirit, and the term we now have haters.
Whereas love speaks the truth for the good of the hearer and shows respect, unwholesome words manipulate and use people and grieve the Holy Spirit.

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” ‭‭EPHESIANS‬ ‭4:29-30‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Discard this talk like overripe fruit.
“A lying tongue hates its victims, and flattering words cause ruin” (Proverb 26:28).

“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise”
(Proverb 10:19).
I often say one who talks too much is prone to tell lies.

“Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”
‭‭PSALMS‬ ‭141:3‬ ‭NASB‬‬
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing” (Philippians 2:14).‬‬

A gossip betrays a confidence; separates close friends; keeps a quarrel going
(Proverbs 11:13; 16:28; 26:20, 21)

Does my tongue encourage or ridicuble?

Encourage
To encourage is to inspire with courage or hope, to hearten. Encouragement provides the home team advantage. It urges people to be brave and exercise their God-given gifts. It says “I believe in you. Through Christ you can do it. You’re not alone.”
We encourage people by showing respect for them, even when their opinions are different from ours. We listen and empathize instead of minimizing the pain of those hurting.

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:13).
“Encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone”
1 Thessalonians 5:14.

It is said Geese in flight honk to encourage the goose in front who breaks the resistance of the wind.

Ridicule
Conversely, ridicule mocks, derides, taunts, and name-calls. Ridicule is a form of rejection and devalues people made in God’s image.

A friend’s family called her “Little Dummy” growing up. Name-calling is not funny to the one derided. Ridiculing words cloaked in a thin veil of “humor” still hurt. Even if you don’t mean ill, if the person is injured by them, your tongue has become a destructive weapon not a life-giving tool.
Ridicule can also take the form of making light of someone’s sorrow.
Suck it up, Get over it, Be a man.

“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving” (Ephesians 5:4).
“Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on a wound, is one who sings songs to a troubled heart”(Proverbs 25:20).

Before you ridicule someone, remember James 3:6 says destructive words are fueled by hell.
Is my tongue soothing or sharp?

Soothing
Soothing words heal. A quiet and gentle spirit is precious to God and doesn’t need to snap and yell.
“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit”
(Proverbs 15:4).
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1).
“Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone” (Proverbs 25:15).
“She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue” Proverbs 31:26).
“And the Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition; if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 2:24, 25).
When we abide in Christ, we stay calm and composed. In quietness and trust we find strength (Isaiah 30:15).

Sharp words
Sharp words cut and slice like a chef’s knife. Sharp words include insults, jabs, and curse words usually spoken in anger and bitterness.
“You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor” (Psalms 52:2)
“I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts — men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.” (Psalms 57:4).

Motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “If it is not necessary to scold, it is necessary not to scold.” Save strong tones to sound the alarm and protect, not to harm and scar.

What power fuels your words — the Spirit or evil?

Spirit-filled words
Spirit-filled words provide the power and wisdom to harness the tongue. The Bible says, “No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison”
(James 3:8).
Self-effort can’t tame the tongue. Neither can good intentions. We need the power of God. And we have it!

Ephesians 5:17-20 commands us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. Our words reveal who controls our heart. A life filled with the Holy Spirit pours out blessing and thanksgiving. Spirit-filledlips make sweet music, instead of noisy gongs.

Jesus said, “You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.” MATTHEW‬ ‭12:34-35‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
‭‭GALATIANS‬ ‭5:22-23‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Present your tongue to God as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13).

Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” PSALMS‬ ‭34:1‬ ‭NASB‬‬

and watch God infuse your tongue with life-giving power.
Spirit-filled lips bless God and people. Submit your heart to God and hand Him the reins to your tongue.

Evil-fueled words
The Scripture says a tongue not under the control of the Holy Spirit is a restless evil set on fire by hell and controlled by the evil one (James 3:6).

“The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. … It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:6, 8 NIV).

“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. And I say to you that every careless word what men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgement. For by your words you shall be justified, and by you words you shall be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37 NASB).

“But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them” (Matthew 15:18 NIV).

“You let your mouth say anything evil.Your tongue plans deceit. You sit and talk against your own brother. You slander your own mother’s son. When you did these things, I remained silent. That made you think I was like you. I will argue my point with you and lay it all out for you to see” (Psalms 50:19-21).

The tongue is small but powerful. Unbridled it dispenses deadly poison. Bridled by the Holy Spirit it blesses, refreshes, and gives life. Is your tongue heaven’s tool or hell’s weapon? Give your heart and tongue to Jesus today.

“Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips” (Psalm 141:3).

“The purpose of the church?"
CBC 16/09/18
Prayer

The Bible is the word of God whether I believe it or not does not change the truth it contains and the eternal destiny for humanity.

Church Purpose Statement. (BMW E)

Acts 2:42 could be considered a purpose statement for the church:
“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

According to this verse, the purposes/activities of the church should be
1) teaching biblical doctrine, (set of beliefs taught by the church).
2) providing a place of fellowship (to share in, friendly association ) for believers,
3) observing the Lord’s supper, and applying baptism
4) praying.

1. We are to teach biblical doctrine so we can be grounded in our faith(complete trust and confidence in someone or something ). Hebrew 11:1 “Now faith is the [a]assurance of things [b]hoped for, the [c]conviction of things not seen.”

Reason for our teaching biblical doctrine, Ephesians 4:14 “As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;”

KJ V
“Then we will no longer be infants, [1 Peter 2:1-2 “Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,”]

( no longer)tossed back and forth by the waves, [control]
and (no longer)blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” [you have knowledge].

2. The church is to be a place of fellowship, where Christians can be devoted to one another and honor(great respect/high esteem) one another (Romans 12:10), “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; [a]give preference to one another in honor;”

Phil. 2:1-4 “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

3. instruct one another (Romans 15:14), “And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another.”

be kind and compassionate to one another
“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭32‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

encourage one another
“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

and most importantly, “that we should love one another”
“For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;” 1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

4. The church is to be a place where believers can observe the Lord’s Supper, remembering Christ’s death and shed blood on our behalf (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). The concept of “breaking bread” (Acts 2:42) also carries the idea of having meals together. Fellowship.
This is another example of the church promoting fellowship.

5. The final purpose of the church according to Acts 2:42 is prayer.
The church is to be a place that promotes prayer, teaches prayer, and practices prayer.
Mark.11:17, “And he taught, and said unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but ye have made it a den of robbers.”

Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” {didn’t say grant your prayer request, peace / anxious }

6. Another commission given to the church is proclaiming the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20); The Great Commission.
(Acts 1:8) “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

“For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:13‬ ‭

The church is called to be faithful in sharing the gospel through word and deed.
The church is to be a “lighthouse” in the community, pointing people toward our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The church is to both promote the gospel and prepare the members to proclaim the gospel (1 Peter 3:15) “but (a) sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a [b]defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and [c]reverence;”

Some final purposes of the church are given in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Pollution of the world are:
a. what you feed mind, see, hear, and read.
b. thoughts
c. actions

The church is to be about the business of ministering to those in need. This includes not only sharing the gospel, but also providing for physical needs (food, clothing, shelter) as necessary and appropriate, mental (counseling).

“But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”(omission)
‭‭James‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭NASB‬‬

The church is also to equip believers in Christ with the tools they need to overcome sin and remain free from the pollution of the world. This is done by biblical teaching and Christian fellowship.

So, what is the purpose of the church? Paul gave an excellent illustration to the believers in Corinth.
The church is God’s hands, mouth, and feet in this world—the body of Christ
(1 Corinthians 12:12-27). We are to be doing the things that Jesus Christ would do if He were here physically on the earth. The church is to be “Christian,” “Christ-like,” and Christ-following.
