History of Santo Amaro da Imperatriz
The colonization of Santo Amaro da Imperatriz is linked to the discovery of the source of thermal waters by hunters in 1813. The imperial government then highlighted a police contingent to guard the place, since the region was inhabited by natives who defended the permanence in the region . On March 18, 1818, King Dom João VI ordered the construction of a hospital - it was the first law to create a spa in Brazil. In October 1845, Santo Amaro da Imperatriz received the visit of the imperial couple Dom Pedro II and Dona Teresa Cristina Maria de Bourbon, who had a building with rooms and baths built for the visitors in search of relief for their pains. In honor of the Empress, the locality, on the outskirts of the city - which was called Caldas do Cubatão - was renamed Caldas da Imperatriz.
Santo Amaro da Imperatriz has 344 km² of land area, of which 72% is located in a permanent preservation area. The municipality is situated in privileged geographical position. It is connected to the plateau and the coast of Santa Catarina by BR-282 and is cut by the Cubatão River.
The municipality offers many leisure options, with its thermal waters, natural attractions and varied religious and cultural festivities. The natural beauties offered by nature display a wonderful setting. The thermal waters present in Caldas da Imperatriz that sprout at 39 degrees Celsius, were qualified with one of the best in the World.
