Welcome to the Official WYD 2013 Pilgrims Page....Invite your friends to like the page as we journey with together in Rio de Janerio, Brazil
Sixteen pilgrims including Bishop Gabriel Malzaire will be representing Dominica and the Diocese of Roseau during World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. It has been predicted that WYD may be larger than the World Cup, with 1 million or more persons
expected to be in attendance. The theme of WYD Rio 2013: “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28: 19), summons young people of the world to take a call to mission, living as witnesses of the Risen Christ. It motivates each participant to let the light of the Risen Christ dissipate the darkness of fear and doubts that paralyze. It encourages young people to be missionaries even in situations of conflict, in countries where Christians are persecuted, amid a secularized world that does not want to live Christian values. Go, young missionaries who trust in the Church’s Magisterium and support their faith in liturgy and life in community! Go and strengthen your faith with answers and explanations about the issues that distress the world today! Go and witness the joy of the encounter with the Risen Christ at WYD Rio2013! The Dominican pilgrims will begin their journey on July 17th where they will join other pilgrims from the Caribbean for Mission Week in the Diocese of Guarulhos, Sao Paulo. While in Sao Paulo, pilgrims will have an opportunity to experience the faith of the local people and share a little Dominican culture. From July 22-28, the pilgrims will travel to Rio to participate in the official World Youth Day activities which include events presided by Pope Francis. The Dominican pilgrims will also have the opportunity to assist in hosting one of the 273 Catechesis sites set up throughout the city of Rio. The pilgrims have been preparing for many months to begin this pilgrimage of faith. Dominicans will be able to watch many of the events live on EWTN. Be sure to look out for our pilgrims! Funds are still needed to ensure that Dominica is well represented at World Youth Day. Anyone wishing to make a contribution towards this pilgrimage may contact the Diocesan Youth Office ([email protected]).
