Steadfast love. What does that mean? This Sunday at 10:30 am we are meeting at Peniel UMC for a combined worship service to discuss steadfast love. Much as we might like it to mean that we will never experience problems and life will be easy and happy all the time, that kind of love is a fairy tale—and not a very good fairy tale, at that. Psalm 32 offers a richer and more robust account of God’s steadfast love—a love that never ends and never fails, no matter what life throws at us. As you listen to Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow,” take a deep breath and consider how God might be calling you to “let go of the umbrella” and trust in God’s steadfast love.

Being United Methodist should not require me or any pastor to abandon their convictions. I am pleased that debate and decisions made at this General Conference have insured the right of pastors to use their own discernment and discretion to officiate weddings. As traditional pastors process the news and changes coming from General Conference, please know that your bishop celebrates and honors the diversity of our clergy and churches in Indiana.

“Are we willing to intercede?” Scriptures: Psalm 77 and Proverbs 30:1-9

We, every believer ever converted heart, have been there crying out of the depths of our heart far into the nighttime and often in
the dark and early morning hours. Whether it’s for us or a loved one there is no mistaking the anguish of the troubled and
fearful heart. There is no rest and there is no peace our cries are continuous, and the burden is unrelenting, whether it’s a
doctor’s appointment, a court date, a bank note, or a hospital bed it doesn’t matter. It’s a time in which our tears have long since
been spent and then came the joy of the morning the release the answer.
Reflecting on these times we gain a greater and more appreciation for James' observation that ‘the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.’ (James 5:16) Proverbs is one of the Wisdom Books of the Bible. The author of verses 1-9 of the 30th
chapter knows that we often become complacent and lose the fire that marks the troubled and fearful heart; and yet we, as those who would pick up the burden of intercession are called to turn not from but toward that very unrelenting sense of urgency.
Prayer: Holy and Merciful Father grant us a right and willing Spirit that we might take upon ourselves the burden of those whose
hearts are troubled and fearful and pray for their relief and Salvation even as our own. In the name of Jesus, the Christ I Pray.

One of the ministries we support here is the Salvation Army. It is bell ringing season. All the money raised that helps people in our community when they need assistance comes from the money dropped into the bucket during the ringing season. By year end we will have given away more than $13,000, so this is extremely needed in our community. Please consider as a family or as an individual to sign up to ring the bell at either Wal Mart or Kroger (this is a live sign-up so we'll be able to track who signs up.)
