They begin to see the next step. They engage more with people and to make better use of the opportunities offered by the State. "" Some go to school. Some returns to "work life", she adds. "The full realization of human rights requires that all human beings are aware of your and other people's rights and the means to ensure their protection," said Pillay. "This is the task of the human rights education that builds knowledge, skills and attitudes leading to behavior that respects human rights". United Nations Development Programme in Brazil

Considering the importance of safety for human development, UNDP has been working in Brazil since the beginning of the years 2000, the from the conceptual perspective of Citizen Security, which involves the adoption of a comprehensive treatment of public security. The prospect of Citizen Security part of multicausal nature of urban violence and crime. Considering this multiple causality, favors a comprehensive strategy to promote coexistence and citizen security, namely, the aim is to incorporate actions in various thematic areas related to risk factors of violence and environments where violence can be generated, as well as aggregating multiple actors to work together. In recent years, UNDP has accumulated relevant corporate experience in the area of security, both at the national level as a place, as a result of various conflict-prevention activities, institutional reform and capacity-building for democratic governance. In this way, UNDP has developed a set of instruments and tools that retrieve best practices on citizen security in the region and also puts at the disposal of the Governments of the region its network of certified experts, who have concrete experience and successful in their respective countries. UNDP identifies the access to justice as a priority element for the security and development as an area for cooperation is fundamental for the fulfillment of its mandate in many parts of the world. In this context, and within the framework of its mandate, UNDP has been supporting, since 2005, in partnership with the Secretariat of the judicial reform of the Ministry of Justice, the Community justice program, coordinated by the Court of Justice of the Federal District and territories. For UNDP, the Community justice program represents a paradigm with great potential transformer in that it articulates actions, dissemination of legal information, mediation and social networks, animation having as protagonists and the community partners, through the communitarian agents and members of the local judiciary, with the single goal of broadening access to justice those people who invariably, lack of adequate information or the means to do so. The UNDP believes that the strengthening of community justice programs that take into account the normative framework, cultural diversity and respect for the dignity of persons involved in the community process is a mechanism for consolidating democracy and promoting human rights through access to justice to all. Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of a true giant, the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

For more than 60 years, Reverend Jackson helped lead some of the most significant movements for change in human history. From organizing boycotts and sit-ins, to registering millions of voters, to advocating for freedom and democracy around the world, he was relentless in his belief that we are all children of God, deserving of dignity and respect.

Reverend Jackson also created opportunities for generations of African Americans and inspired countless more, including us. Michelle got her first glimpse of political organizing at the Jacksons’ kitchen table when she was a teenager. And in his two historic runs for president, he laid the foundation for my own campaign to the highest office of the land.

Michelle and I will always be grateful for Jesse's lifetime of service, and the friendship our families share. We stood on his shoulders. We send our deepest condolences to the Jackson family and everyone in Chicago and beyond who knew and loved him.

62 years ago today, visionary civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, advocating ideals that remain just as relevant today.

From speaking up and engaging in constructive dialogue to supporting vulnerable groups, we can all play a part in combating racism and all forms of discrimination.
