Heart Sutra
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva
meditating in deepest prajnaparamita
perceived that the five skandhas are mental reflections,
thus all suffering ended
Sariputra! Forms are inseparable from mental reflections. And mental reflections are inseparable from forms
Forms are no different than mental reflections.
Mental reflections are no different than forms.
The same is true of sensations, perceptions, mental formations and consciousness
Sariputra, mental reflections are the way of life.
There is no beginning and no end
There is nothing pure or impure
There is neither increase nor decrease.
Therefore the reflections have no forms
no sensations, perceptions, mental formations or consciousness
All are images reflected by the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind,
sight, sound, smell, taste, touch and thought are all reflections
The same holds true for the visual realm all the way through the consciousness realm,
無無明
There is no ignorance.
Just as there is no ending of ignorance,
Even old age and death are reflections,
as is the ending of old age and death,
Suffering, the Cause of Suffering, the Cessation of Suffering and the path are all reflections,
Wisdom is innate, therefore, there is nothing to attain,
Thus, the Enlightened Being, abiding in prajnaparamita,
has no mental obstacles.
Without mental obstacles,
One has no terror
Beyond all confusion and illusions
One reaches ultimate Nirvana,
All Buddhas of the past, present and future,
abiding in prajnaparamita,
reveal their original, innately complete and perfect Enlightenment.
Thus we know that prajaparamita
is the great divine mantra,
the great bright mantra,
the supreme mantra,
the unequaled mantra,
able to dispel all suffering,
This is the Ultimate Truth,
The mantra of prajnaparamita is thus proclaimed:
Gate! Gate! Paragate!
Parasamgate! Bodhisvaha! “
Note:
Five skandhas in English are often spoken about as the five aggregates. Nobody normally would understand what it means.
All the pleasant, unpleasant and neutral sensations that together constitute a person's lived experience.
(色)Forms
Sensations
(想)Perceptions
(行)Mental formations
(識)Consciousness
So those are the five skandhas.
lt's had to translate certain words from Sanskrit, so we just leave some of them alone, as Master Xuan Zang also did, so we respect that too. We try to do the same.
To understand this concept of emptiness.
It is just like the relationship between a mirror and reflections that appear on it.
