I guess she was over the 85-degree weather and decided to take matters into her own wings 😂 She somehow made her way into the pool after the gate was accidentally left open, and I watched her float around calmly for about five minutes before bringing her back to dry land. I thought a chicken in water would be pure chaos, but she looked more relaxed than I have ever seen her. She did not drown, the camera let me know she was there, and everyone is okay. Eight years of chickens, and they still find new ways to surprise me 🐓💦❤️

We had to laugh because Tractor Supply told us the little coop on the left would be big enough for 6 chickens 😂 Once it was assembled, we realized there was no way that tiny thing would comfortably or humanely hold 6 full-grown hens. Then, in true chicken math fashion, we ended up getting 6 more and had 12 hens total. Since we couldn’t return the small coop, we attached it to the larger coop/run by cutting doorways into both side panels, and now it’s their little loft area to hang out in whenever they want. The girls free-range when we’re home, but this is their safe home base when we aren’t. We’re now down to 5 after a fox got 6, so they have a lot more room, and we added branches inside the run for them to roost on during the day 🐓🏡🌿

A little treat for the crazy chicken ladies out there… because once you love chickens, there’s no going back 🐓❤️😂

I had something get into my coop the other night, and then last night I saw it trying to get back in again 😭 I only caught a quick glimpse, but it looked dark, moved really fast, and seemed kind of cat-shaped. It managed to rip out stapled chicken wire, tear out a screen, and pull out metal vents. There were only a few feathers left behind. Has anyone dealt with something like this before or know what it could be? 🐓😢

Y’all, I am absolutely flabbergasted 😂 Soufflé has been missing for three days, and I finally found her trapped underneath an upside-down pot. Somehow this chicken flipped the pot over herself and then sat there in complete silence like that was a normal life choice. I’ve been outside several times a day searching, and she never made one tiny noise. My daughter even sat on the pot yesterday, and Soufflé still said nothing 😭 Tonight I heard a little tap, flipped it over expecting a bug, and there she was — filthy, disheveled, standing in a perfect circle of destroyed grass and p**p. The pot has been moved far away from her, and she is now eating, drinking, and being treated like the dramatic survivor she apparently is 🐓😂

Looks like someone invited himself into the chicken coop today 😳 This little guy must have thought he hit the jackpot at an all-you-can-eat chicken buffet. Hopefully he won’t be making another appearance tonight. Somehow, the chickens were completely unfazed and gave us a record egg day 🐓😂🥚

Me: yep chickens turkeys guineas
Her: oh gosh I could never eat a chicken egg it comes from their butt.
Me: *confused* so you don't eat eggs?

Nothing wakes you up faster than going out to feed and water the animals and thinking you’ve found a dead chicken. 🐔😱 The way she was laying had me convinced she had died the most dramatic cartoon death possible. I grabbed gloves to remove her, but surprise—she was alive, fine, and somehow still productive enough to lay an egg! 🥚🤣
