TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU DO DURING WORSHIP SERVICES?
Read (James1:21-22)

INTRODUCTION:
To me concerning worship, " If you want to worship God, open your mouth in praises first, his/her heart in receptivity, his/her mind in contemplation, his/her purse in dedication, and his/her hand in fellowship." These are true words indeed! But in order to receive in worship we must consider something we do before worship, during worship, and after worship.

BODY
I. SOMETHING TO DO BEFORE THE SERVICE.

"Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness"
A. God has always wanted those who worship Him to be cleanses of personal sinfulness before entering into worshiping.
1. Zechariah 3:3-4 "Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. 4- Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, "Take away the filthy garments from him." And to him He said, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.""
2. Psalms 24:3-4 "Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? 4- He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully."

B. Christians need to seek to purify their lives before God as a prerequisite to worship.
1. Matthew 5:23-24 ""Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24- leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."
2. Colossians 3:8- "But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth."

3. 1 Peter 2:1- "Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,"

4. We must maintain personal righteousness, because our Lord is present in our assemblies. Dnt play with your worship.

a. Matthew 18:20- ""For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.""

II. SOMETHING TO DO DURING THE SERVICE

"receive with meekness the implanted word from your pastor which is able to save your souls."
A. One of the great purposes of the assembly is to receive the Word of God.
1. In our singing
b. Ephesians 5:19- "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your
heart to the Lord,"
c. Colossians 3:16- "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

2. In the sermon
a. Acts 20:7
b. Nehemiah 8:7-8 "Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place. 8- So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading."
B. Teaching and receiving the wrong doctrine can cause our worship to be vain in the sight of the Lord.
1. Matthew 15:8-9 "'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9- And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'""
2. John 4:24

C. In light of this, what can we conclude?
1. We have an obligation to listen attentively to what is being taught.
a. Acts 10:33- ""So I sent to you immediately, and you have done well to come. Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God.""

III. SOMETHING TO DO AFTER THE SERVICE

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
A. We need to remember that worship is not the sum total of our duty to God!
1. Luke 9:23-24 "Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his
cross daily, and follow Me. 24- For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it."
2. Acts 2:46- "So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,"

B. We must apply the lessons that we hear and follow them each day!
1. Matthew 7:21
2. Romans 2:13- "(for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;"

3. James 1:23-25

4. Mind you, "Worship does not conclude your Christian obligation; it merely equips you to carry it out."

CONCLUSION:
One of the purposes and responsibilities of personal and public worship is to enable the aspirant to keep tuned to the Great Shepherd which is ur pastor. One of the joys of the Christian life is to help others recapture the missing note!

2. It is this faith in the risen Christ that gives us great spiritual power.

a. Luke 17:6 - "So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."

rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready
for every good work,"
2. Galatians 6:10 - "Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially
to those who are of the household of faith."
3. Ephesians 2:10 - "For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them."

(IV). IT IS A LIFE FREE FROM FEAR AND
DREAD.
A. We must learn to lean on the Lord.
1. Proverbs 3:25, 26 - "Do not be afraid of
sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the
wicked when it comes; 26 - For the LORD
will be your confidence, And will keep your

TOPIC: O LORD HEAL MY TONGUE: (James 3:6 "And the tongue is a fire. A world of iniquity, the tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature: and it set on fire by hell.") Read James 3:1-12)
There is somebody that God wants to turn her situation around and promote but her tongue has always been her undoing. The Lord says you should keep a tight rein on your tongue this time around and you will see the manifestation of his glory.
The tongue indeed is unruly, it cannot be tamed. The tongue is a killer, a deadly poison. The tongue makes our prayer, holiness and work of righteousness worthless before God. T bible warns believers to keep their tongue from speaking evil and lies (Ps. 34:13). Do you want to be safe from calamity? You must guild your mouth and tongue (prov. 21:23). A wholesome tongue is a tree of life (Prov. 15:4). Death nd life are in the power of the tongue (18:2). When rightly used, the tongue brings life to people because it revives the soul and spirit of man. When wrongly used it bring death not only to others but to the owner.
Everyman will eat of the fruit of his tongue. Show me ur tongue and I will tell you ur spiritual condition. Some have a sick tongue that needs healing. The tongue though small it can build and destroy so be careful the way u use ur tongue in this coming year 2020. Apostle James refer to the tongue as fire, a world of iniquity that defiles the whole body and turns a man's life upside down (James 3:6).
I urge you brethren to pray to be able to control ur tongue then u will be able to control ur life. A bridled tongue sobers the heart and a sober heart is what u need to connect with God in the spirit. Let the blood of Jesus touch ur tongue this last sunday of 2019 in the same manner that the coal of fire touched the life of Isaiah (Isaiah 6:6-7). Let ur tongue be sanctified and made pure through the blood and it will be begin to drip honey and milk (S. O. S4:). This is the healing u need in order to be able to pour out grace from your mouth.

PRAY THIS PRAYER BELLOW
1. O lord, forgive me for running down people . using my tongue in Jesus name Amen
2. From today I promise to use my tongue to bless and edify in Jesus name Amen.
3. O lord, heal me where I need healing and save me from self destruction in Jesus name
4. Review to me my spiritual condition in Jesus name
5. Power to control my tongue, come upon me mightily in Jesus name. Amen.

O Lord help us to obey and use our tongue well in Jesus name amen.
Thank you for reading

TOPIC: ASK YOURSELF THIS, AM I SAVE?
You need to examine urself as to whether u are in the faith and are bearing fruit that befits repentance. A few straight question may help u to conduct this examination: brother/sister, Sir, Ma, do u practice a dead form of godliness without a clear testimony of being born again? Then u are deceiving urself. How is ur conduct at work? Are u overcome by rage and do u often lose ur temper? Are u honest and do u avoid corrupt behavior? Do u refrain from cursing, participation in filthy conversations and the viewing of po*******hy material? How is ur conduct at home? Do u set the right example of holiness and living a godly life for ur family? Do regularly worship the lord and read the bible in family and private devotions? Do u study the bible for advice, guidance and answers to it problems? Do u read good Christian literature? Do u live a sanctified life in the power of the holy spirit? (Eph 4:24) If u live in sin and yielded to Satan deception in different way if u die you go to Hell, Repent and be save (Romans 10:9-15)

TOPIC: ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR
GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD.
TEXT: 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God"

DO YOU LOVE GOD?
Two things I would like to point out here:

i) This passage is addressed to those who love God. If therefore you love God it is addressed TO YOU as well.

ii) According to this passage ALL THINGS, i.e. everything that has happened, happens or will happen, WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD to those who love Him. The phrase "work TOGETHER" implies the combined work of more than one member. Even if one of these was missing, this "working together" would be incomplete. In other words, EVERYTHING in the life of a man that loves God IS NECESSARY for the good, since it is the combined work of ALL that give it. As we read in Proverbs 12:21:

Proverbs 12:21
"There shall no evil happen to the righteous"

As the Companion Bible translates it: "Nothing in vain shall happen to the righteous". Nothing in the life of a man that loves God is evil, random, or vain. In contrast, EVERYTHING, even those things that we do not accept pleasantly, is a part of God's recipe for the good. It is not accidental that the Word says: "All that want to live godly will be persecuted" (II Timothy 3:12) and "many are the afflictions of the righteous" (Psalms 34:19) while at the same time states that "there shall no evil happen" to him, thus implying that even the afflictions are NOT evil or vain. Also, it is not accidental that it says:

Ephesians 5:20
"Giving thanks always for ALL THINGS to God even the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ"

And I Thessalonians 5:18
"IN EVERYTHING give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you"

God tells us to thank Him in EVERYTHING. We usually thank someone for his part in something that concerns us. Many of us deny to thank God in EVERYTHING, for the simple reason that we do not believe that God has a part in EVERYTHING. But as His Word says:

Lamentations 3:37-38
"Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?"

Even the devil cannot go beyond the boundaries that the Lord has set. In Job 1-2 we see that he could not try Job without having a permission, and he could not go beyond this permission. In Luke 22:31 we see that in order to "sift [the disciples] as wheat", he had to ASK first "to obtain by asking". See 1Corinthians 10:13 we see that we will not "be tempted beyond what we are able", not because the devil does not want it, but because "GOD [who] is faithful will not allow us". In Matthew 4:1 we see that it was "BY THE SPIRIT" that Jesus was led up into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. When Job said "Shall we accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" (Job 2:10), the Scripture says "Job did NOT sin with his lips". When he said: "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD" (Job 1:21) he again spoke the truth: "In all this JOB DID NOT SIN NOR CHARGE GOD WITH WRONG" (Job 1:22). What Job said was RIGHT AND ACCURATE.

If you wonder why you are still unemployed, or why you are still alone, or why you have not been healed, or why the such and such happened, do what the righteous Job did: GLORIFY THE LORD FOR THESE. For "ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE THAT LOVE GOD." What you now may consider as infliction, it is NECESSARY FOR THE GOOD. Otherwise, be sure you would not have it. Glorify the Lord and trust Him. THANK HIM IN ALL THINGS. You may consider some of them as "evil" but we just saw it: "There shall no evil happen to the righteous" and YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS (Romans 3:21-26).

As Paul said in a similar situation:

II Corinthians 12:7-10
"And lest I should be made haughty by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I not be made haughty. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." (NKJV-Interlinear Bible)

Paul BOASTED in his infirmities. The reproaches, the needs, the persecutions and the distresses were for him but opportunities through which he saw the power of the Lord. The "thorn in the flesh", did not come all alone. IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM, so that he not be haughty. Certainly, that thorn was painful and he wanted to get rid of it, yet it prevented him from haughtiness. Paul might have wondered going third time to the Lord, why the previous two times his prayer was not answered. We may also not understand why some of our prayers were answered immediately, while others NOT, even though we devoted much heart and time to them. However, we are not asked to understand BUT RATHER TO BELIEVE. To believe that since we love God, all things work together for good. As He says:

Isaiah 55:8-9
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts!

And Romans 1:17
"The just shall live BY FAITH"

What we need to live is FAITH. We need to trust Him and be surrendered to Him completely. It is not necessary our will to be done. What is necessary is HIS WILL to be done, for it is much higher than ours.

1. "All things work together for good to those who love God": Some examples
We will see now some examples regarding what we just read. To start we will go to Philippians 1:12-18. There we read:

Philippians 1:12-18
"But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chain, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice."

Paul was in the prison. "Naturally" speaking one would expect that his time there would be unproductive for the gospel. But see what he says: "the things which happened to me have actually turned out FOR THE FURTHERANCE OF THE GOSPEL" and "most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chain, are MUCH MORE bold to speak the word without fear". Not only Paul's chains were not a hindrance to the gospel but they also worked for ITS FURTHERANCE. They really became the power for a bolder proclamation of the Word of God by the other brethren. It may appear as negative for the gospel that Paul was in prison but it was not. In contrast, it had positive effects on it as it worked for its furtherance. The same effect had also his presence in the same place - i.e. in prison - but in Philippi this time. Really, in Acts 16:22-25 we read:

Acts 16:22-25
"Then the multitude rose up together against them [Paul and Silas]; and the magistrates tore off their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with rods. And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison, and fastened their feet in the stocks. But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them."

Paul and Silas were not arguing with God about their situation, but THEY WERE PRAYING AND SINGING TO HIM. Because of their stand, all the prisoners heard the Word of God that night, spoken hymns and prayers. Would have they ever heard it, had no-one been there to speak it to them? I do not think so. But let's read further:

Acts 16:26-34
"Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do yourself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. And they spoke the Word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes; and immediately he and all his family were baptized. And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household."

Would have all these ever happened if Paul and Silas were not imprisoned? Would we ever see the prison keeper and his family in heaven, had not Paul and Silas been there? I don’t think so. We hear "prison" and we say "evil", yet His thoughts are not our thoughts but immeasurably higher than ours.

2. Conclusion
From the above, that in no way exhaust the subject, we can conclude that if we love God, whatever may happen in our lives, pleasant or unpleasant, work together for good. Many get disappointed and offended when "tribulation or persecution arises because of the word" (Matthew 13:21). However even the tribulations and the trials, WORK ALSO FOR GOOD, if we love God.

Romans 5:3
"And not only that but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation PRODUCES patience"

II Corinthians 4:17
"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, IS WORKING FOR US a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory"

James 1:2-4
"My brethren COUNT IT ALL JOY when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith PRODUCES patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing" (NKJV-KJV)

Hebrews 5:8
"though he [speaking of Christ] was a Son yet he learned obedience BY the things which he suffered"

The afflictions are "WORKING FOR US". They work patience. They work eternal glory. They work obedience. Nothing in the life of a man that loves God is random or vain. In contrast, "ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE THAT LOVE HIM". Thanks for reading hope someone is blessed reading this? Like my page, bible student let's teach others the bible. TOPIC: MY JERICHO SHALL FALL
TEXT: (Joshua 6:20), when the people hear the sound of the trumpet and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall of Jericho fell down flat. Praise God,
The power that has chained ur breakthrough shall hear a great shout and every wall of limitation built around u shall sink in Jesus name. (Deut 34:3) Jericho was a city of abomination and a stronghold for immorality and witchcraft practices. The truth is that every man has a spiritual Jericho that stands between him and success. God does not like Jericho. He wants u to identify the Jericho in ur life and deal with it now.
What are those things that do not allow u to worship God and serve him with all ur strength? Do u have to struggle, fight and quarrel before u can get what is rightly due to u? Is ur progress always hindered by obstacles that u cannot understand?
Therefore nver approach ur Jericho with carnal weapons. (Philippians 6:12) it says, For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) brother/ sister, As u approach ur Jericho banish fear. Be ready to face challenges as they come but never run away. Jericho is a place of immorality. JERICHO is a disease. U are the one appointed to cure it. Jericho is a criminal sentenced to death. U are the one appointed to execute the judgment written against her according to (Psalm 149:9). You are God's battle axe to uproot the evil plantation of Jericho.
Prayer
1. Thou captain of my salvation, locate the wall of my Jericho for total destruction in Jesus name
2. Evil powers giving support and confidence to my Jericho, fight against yourselves and die in Jesus name
3. Oh lord that gain victory over Jericho in the time of Joshua, plan the defeat of my spiritual Jericho in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Remain blessed,

OUR TOPIC IS: WHAT IS HOPE?
TEXT: HEBREW 6:19
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the presence behind the veil. Praised the lord,

My friends What are you placing your hope? for the future? Your country’s government, educational system, ur pastor, ur employee, some plan or organization? Is ur hope on someone? As for me, my hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God. I have hope and know that I’m going to heaven. And, right here and now in this present life, I have God’s presence to help me out of any situation.
Suppose we had no Bible. Suppose there were no cross, no salvation, no empty tomb. Suppose we had nothing to hang on except, “Do your best, try to patch it up, do what you can.” Oh, but we have a hope. There is a plan of redemption, a plan for the future. The New Testament is an exciting Book to read, go thruogh it every day you will see were you should lead ur hope on, it is so full of hope and expectancy. And God is interested in you today to build ur hope on Him.
PLS YOU FREE TO CORRECT MEOOOOO BECAUSE NO BODY IS PERFECT. THANKS

PRAYER
Reading Your Word, my heavenly Father, makes me realize that the world and all its heartaches are so transitory. Inspire me to reach others with Your message of hope.

THE ENEMY, THE BATTLE AND THE WINNER

Moreover, it by no means suggests ignorance of him and his techniques. Really, as II Corinthians 2:10-11 says:

II Corinthians 2:10-11
"lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices."

If someone suggests ignorance of the Devil and his devices this is certainly not the one true God, for for Him we are to be "NO ignorant". Taking this as a point of departure, we will try in the next to explore some of the things that the Word says about the enemy, the fight and how we can stand in it.

1. The two powers
The fact of the existence of two opposite powers that are in action today, is evident from Colossians 1:12-14 where, speaking of Christians, it says:

Colossians 1:13-14
"He [the Father] has delivered us FROM THE POWER OF DARKNESS AND CONVEYED US INTO THE KINGDOM OF THE SON OF HIS LOVE"

Also in Acts 26:17-18 Jesus Christ, speaking to Paul about his mission, said:

Acts 26:17-18
"I will deliver you from the people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, TO OPEN THEIR EYES, IN ORDER TO TURNTHEM FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT, AND FROM THE POWER OF SATAN TO GOD, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me"

And Ephesians 5:8 speaking again of us tells us:

Ephesians 5:8
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord"

As it can be seen by all these passages, we were once "darkness" (Ephesians 5:8) and under "the power of Satan" (Acts 26:17). However, when we heard the Word of God regarding Jesus Christ and believed it, we were conveyed "from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God" (Acts 26:17). A summary of both our old and new state is given in Ephesians 2:1-9, where starting from our past state, we read:

Ephesians 2:1-3
"And you.......were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now is working in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others."

That's really a very bad state, yet it is not our present state, as for the latter we read:

Ephesians 2:4-9
"BUT GOD, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourself; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

All we were once under the dominion and influence of the spirit "who now works in the sons of disobedience" i.e. the Devil . All we were once darkness. Yet, we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and in his resurrection and this faith saved us (Romans 10:9). God, from dead that we were before, MADE US ALIVE and RAISED US UP TOGETHER with Christ. However, where are all the other people who have not yet believed? There, where we used to be: i.e. in darkness and under the power of Satan. As II Corinthians 4:3-4 says:

II Corinthians 4:3-4
"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them"

Who is the god of this age who blinds people so that they may not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ? Obviously the one that had blinded us also i.e. the Devil .

Moreover, II Timothy 2:25-26 says:
"in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the Devil , having been taken captive by him to do his will"

We used to be in that state also, but we are no more. We were delivered by God and were transferred from "darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God". Nevertheless, this does not mean that we no longer have dealings with the Devil , as God and the Devil are enemies to each other and there is a war between them and a battle we have to fight.

2. The battle
The battle we are speaking about, is described in Ephesians 6:10-18 where, starting from verses 10-12, we read:

Ephesians 6:10-12
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil . For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

As it can be seen, there is a wrestling, a fight that is going on between us and the Devil and his camp. It is not a fight against flesh and blood, i.e. against human beings, but against principalities and powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness and the wicked spirits in the heavenly places. Fortunately, in this spiritual fight we are not unprotected, as God has provided us with a panoply that if we put on we will be able to fight successfully. Verses 13-18 give us a detailed description of it:

Ephesians 6:13-18
"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints"

See that the armor is not ours. It is the "armor OF GOD". It is something that He has provided to enable us to fight the spiritual battle successfully. Therefore, what is required from us is not to make the armor but to simply take it up. If we do this, it is promised that we will "be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand".

More information about the spiritual battle and especially about the weapons that God has given us to fight it, is found in II Corinthians 10:3-5. There it says:

II Corinthians 10:3-5
"For though we walk in the flesh, WE DO NOT WAR ACCORDING TO THE FLESH. FOR THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE ARE NOT CARNAL BUT MIGHTY IN GOD FOR PULLING DOWN STRONGHOLDS, CASTING DOWN THOUGHTS AND EVERY HIGH THING THAT EXALTS ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."

Again we are told of a warfare, which is not a carnal one and of weapons that are not carnal weapons. If the warfare is not carnal this means that it is spiritual, thus the warfare of Ephesians 6. There we read about the panoply that God has given us to put on and stand against the wiles of the Devil . Here we learn that the weapons that God has given us for this spiritual warfare are not carnal "but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down thoughts and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.".

Therefore, one way or another the conclusion from the above passages is that there is a fight that is not carnal but spiritual. This is a fact that cannot be altered. It is the truth that God has declared in His Word for our benefit. Either we like it or not, it is the truth. Either we fight the fight or not, it is the truth. The only that is dependant on us is the result of the fight as we can either ignore it and not put on the armor of God, in which case we will be devoured by the enemy (I Peter 5:8-9), or we will put it on and resist him in which case we will be able to stand successfully.

3. Persecution, tribulation and deliverance
Having seen the spiritual battle we have to fight, let’s now move ahead and see some of the things that this fight may imply for us in practice. For it is evident that since we are in a fight with the Devil this may imply some actions taken from his part. Starting therefore from John 15:18-21, we read:

John 15:18-21
"[Jesus is speaking to the disciples] If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, "A servant is not greater than his master." IF THEY PERSECUTED ME, THEY WILL ALSO PERSECUTE YOU. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for my name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent me"

As it can be seen it is one thing to be "in the world" and another thing to be "of the world". This is evident from the fact that though in John 17:11 the disciples, and we by extension, are described as "in the world", here we are told that we are not "of the world". The difference is really great, as those "of the world" have an entirely different ruler than those who are not "of the world" i.e. us. Who is the one that rules those "of the world"? We can see it in John 14:30 where Jesus, speaking to his disciples, said:

John 14:30
"I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming and he has nothing in me"

Also I John 5:19 says:
"We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies IN THE WICKED ONE"

We, Christians, are of GOD. He is our RULER, our LORD. However, he is not "the ruler of this world". In contrast, as the text says, the whole world lies in THE WICKED ONE i.e. the Devil , the "god of this age" of II Corinthians 4:3 and "the ruler of this world" of John 14:30. This is the reason that Jesus Christ warns us about persecution from the world. Some of the world kept his word and followed him. Others denied it and persecuted him. It’s the same today as well. Some, like us, will hear the Word of God, will believe it and will be conveyed "from the power of Satan to God", while others will deny it and may persecute us. However, the fact that we may be persecuted does not mean that we should lose our courage. As Jesus said in John 16:33:

John 16:33
"These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. IN THE WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION; BUT BE OF GOOD CHEER, I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD"

Jesus Christ very straightly tells us that in the world we will have tribulation. However, he does not stop there but encourages us to "be of good cheer" for he has overcome the world. And not only that, but he, the one that overcame the world, Jesus Christ the Lord, is in us now. Really Colossians 1:27 tells us:

Colossians 1:27
"To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory."

Also II Corinthians 13:5 says in the form of a question:
"Do you not know yourselves, that JESUS CHRIST IS IN YOU?"

Christ, the one that overcame the world, is in you NOW. As I John 4:4 says:

I John 4:4
"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, BECAUSE HE WHO IS IN YOU IS GREATER THAN HE WHO IS IN THE WORLD"

Greater is the one that is in you than the one that is in the world: the Devil . Of course there will be persecution and tribulation. The Word is very clear on this. Yet, it will not stop there, but there will also be deliverance from the Lord. As Paul said in II Timothy 3:10-12, giving his personal witness:

II Timothy 3:10-12
"But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, PERSECUTIONS, AFFLICTIONS, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra - what persecutions I endured. AND OUT OF THEM ALL THE LORD DELIVERED ME. YES, AND ALL WHO DESIRE TO LIVE GODLY IN CHRIST JESUS WILL SUFFER PERSECUTION."

Who says that because we are Christians we will have no persecution? Certainly not the Word, for here it is before our eyes: "all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution". Therefore, let’s not be miserable if it happens to face persecution, for persecution is risen against those who walk with God and "desire to live godly in Christ Jesus". This of course does not mean that all that we will have in life will be persecutions. Paul suffered much tribulation and many persecutions, but as he says: "AND OUT OF THEM ALL THE LORD DELIVERED ME". Persecution is only the one side of the coin. The other is deliverance from the Lord. As Paul again witnesses few verses later:

II Timothy 4:16-18
"At my first defense NO ONE STOOD WITH ME, BUT ALL FORSOOK ME. May it not be charged against them. BUT THE LORD STOOD WITH ME AND STRENGTHEN ME, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I WAS DELIVERED out of the mouth of the lion. AND THE LORD WILL DELIVER ME FROM EVERY EVIL WORK AND PRESERVE ME FOR HIS HEAVENLY KINGDOM. To Him be the glory for ever and ever"

The normal is that all the family, all the church of God stands with you and you stand with all. Unfortunately, as the Word shows here, this may not happen, as it depends on whether each member of the family walks with the spirit (the new nature) or with the flesh (the old nature). In our case, all flew away from Paul. A man that had worked so hard, so committed, for God serving His people, strengthening them and making known to them the Word of God, was forsook by all save one: the LORD who was the only one that stood with him. And really He is the only one that we should assuredly expect to stand faithfully with us, as He promises it in Hebrews 13:5-6:

Hebrews 13:5-6
"I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. So we may boldly say: "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

All the others may forsake you. All may leave you. Yet the Lord will NEVER leave you but He will always deliver you as you stand for Him. As Paul boldly said: "AND THE LORD WILL DELIVER ME FROM EVERY EVIL WORK AND PRESERVE ME FOR HIS HEAVENLY KINGDOM". Also, as we read in Romans 8:35-36:

Romans 8:35-36
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? As it is written: "for your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."

Does the last phrase of the above passage says that there will be no tribulation? NO, what it says is that IN TRIBULATION we will be more than conquerors. The same with the others as well: Famine, nakedness, persecution, sword etc. Who says that all these will not happen because we are Christians? Certainly not the Word. For what the Word says is that "IN ALL THESE THINGS [which means that they may come our way] we will be more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

Closing therefore: there is a spiritual battle we have to fight. In this battle we are not unprotected but we have the armor of God, the spiritual weapons of God the only appropriate for this battle. Also we have a God that is greater than anyone else and is specialized to deliver and take us out from the traps and the temptations of the enemy. If the ruler of this world rises persecution against you, do not marvel. It is absolutely natural and means that his kingdom has problems with you. Stay faithful in the difficulty to God for as II Peter 2:9 says: "THE LORD KNOWS HOW TO DELIVER THE GODLY OUT OF TEMPTATIONS".
