The time we are living in is leading us toward the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, when He will come to take his Church and it will be caught up to meet Him in the clouds. This will happen in the twinkling of an eye.
However, while we wait for Him, the Word of God shows that some people will be spiritually asleep. As believers, we are therefore called to stay alert and avoid anything that can make us drowsy or spiritually asleep. Such things are not limited to alcohol; there are many others.
A clear example in our time is the use of phones and the internet. Many people find it difficult to spend a day without checking their phones, yet they struggle to spend even a short time praying or studying the Word of God.
