Happy Uzhavar Thirunaal,
The third day of Pongal is celebrated as " Uzhavar Thirunaal" in respect of and to Revere the Culture of Farming and in particular the process of ploughing.

As time went by and the familiarity ( controversy) associated with Jallukattu, the day stands strong in the minds of many as " Maattu Pongal".

The great saint Thiruvaluvar has attributed Chapter 104 - உழவு Farming/Agriculture to bring to light the importance of the Holy Profession of Agriculture.

This chapter appears under the chapter group குடியியல் _ Social and Cultural togetherness and appears along with other chapters Viz. Nobility, Honor, Greatness, Perfectness, Courtesy,Wealth & Benefaction, Shame, Maintaining a family, Poverty, Mendicancy , The dread of Mendicancy and
Baseness.

Kural 1033:
உழுதுண்டு வாழ்வாரே வாழ்வார்மற் றெல்லாம்
தொழுதுண்டு பின்செல் பவர்

English Explanation:
They alone live who live by agriculture; all others lead a cringing, dependent life

Transliteration:
Uzhudhuntu Vaazhvaare Vaazhvaarmar Rellaam
Thozhudhuntu Pinsel Pavar

Kural 1032:
உழுவார் உலகத்தார்க் காணியஃ தாற்றா
தெழுவாரை எல்லாம் பொறுத்து

English Explanation:
Farmers are (as it were) the linch-pin of the world for they support all other workers who cannot till the soil

Transliteration:
Uzhuvaar Ulakaththaarkku Aaniaq Thaatraadhu
Ezhuvaarai Ellaam Poruththu

Kural 1035:
இரவார் இரப்பார்க்கொன் றீவர் கரவாது
கைசெய்தூண் மாலை யவர்

English Explanation:
Farmers (those who plough) live by their labor and not only stand to beg before other but give to those who beg

Transliteration:
Iravaar Irappaarkkondru Eevar Karavaadhu
Kaiseydhoon Maalai Yavar

Kural 1037:
தொடிப்புழுதி கஃசா உணக்கின் பிடித்தெருவும்
வேண்டாது சாலப் படும்

English Explanation:
If the land is dried so as to reduce one ounce of earth to a quarter by ploughing, it will grow plentifully even without a handful of manure

Transliteration:
Thotippuzhudhi Kaqsaa Unakkin Pitiththeruvum
Ventaadhu Saalap Patum

Agriculture was always a part of our culture as testified by Aharvaveda sookthamam -
Krishi sookrham

सीरा॑ युञ्जन्ति क॒वयो॑ यु॒गा वि त॑न्वते॒ पृथ॑क्। धीरा॑ दे॒वेषु॑ सुम्न॒यौ ॥

Just as farmers bring happiness to others by farming and remain happy themselves, similarly all human beings should enjoy happiness by being helpful to each other.

यु॒नक्त॒ सीरा॒ वि यु॒गा त॑नोत कृ॒ते योनौ॑ वपते॒ह बीज॑म्। वि॒राजः॒ श्नुष्टिः॒ सभ॑रा असन्नो॒ नेदी॑य॒ इत्सृ॒ण्यः॑ प॒क्वमा य॑वन् ॥

The clever farmer plows the field according to the proper method and gets the best food etc. by the best seeds and other means,

Happy Pongal.

Pongal is a festival of Gratitude to Mother Nature.

There is a Saying in Tamil :
" Thai Piranthaal Vazhi Pirakkum" means once the month of Thai is Born, the Ways shall open up.

Pongal is celebrated in reverence to Nature's Divine entities Viz. Sun , Lighting , Wind, Water , that is showered upon as Blessing of Rain.

Chapter 2 of Thirukkural " Vaan Sirappu" - " The blessings from the Sky " is both Gratitude and Praise of Mother nature.

Kural 18:
சிறப்பொடு பூசனை செல்லாது வானம்
வறக்குமேல் வானோர்க்கும் ஈண்டு

English Explanation:
If the heaven dry up, neither yearly festivals, nor daily worship will be offered in this world, to the celestials

Transliteration:
Sirappotu Poosanai Sellaadhu Vaanam
Varakkumel Vaanorkkum Eentu

Kural 19:
தானம் தவமிரண்டும் தங்கா வியனுலகம்
வானம் வழங்கா தெனின்

English Explanation:
If rain fall not, penance and alms-deeds will not dwell within this spacious world

Transliteration:
Thaanam Thavamirantum Thangaa Viyanulakam
Vaanam Vazhangaa Thenin

உறுபசியும் ஓவாப் பிணியும் செறுபகையும்
சேரா தியல்வது நாடு

A State /Nation that which continues to be free from excessive starvation, irremediable epidemics, and destructive foes is truly a welfare state

Yes , Kerala has taken the first step of removing Extreme Poverty and in this endeavour they devised a plan to identify those residing in the State under abject Poverty and systematically worked out and implemented various measures to help out 64000 plus families consisting of 1 lac plus individuals throughout the last 4 and half years and now stall as leading light of vision for others to emulate

ஓவாப் பிணியும் - Irremediable Epidemics

Yes, towards this extent Kerala ranks No 1 in the nation with health index parameters matching Developed economies.
Kerala has spent extensively in health infrastructure, upgrading PHC s and Reaching out to all districts to have a minimum of One Medical college in the Government sector.

செறுபகையும் - Destructive Foes

Not accomplished yet, but with the welfare schemes of 2016 to 2021, changed the Kerala pattern of Alternative Governments and all set for LDF 3.0 ...If all goes well the destructive Foes shall soon be a reality of Past.

Chapter 107. இரவச்சம்
The Dread of Mendicancy

This Couplet is dear to me as Valluvar challenges the Almighty and gets to the extent stating if one has to live his life thru taking alms, let the creatort
be cursed to take the disgraced path of taking alms and perish.

Kural 1062:
இரந்தும் உயிர்வாழ்தல் வேண்டின் பரந்து
கெடுக உலகியற்றி யான்

If the Creator of the world has decreed even begging as a means of livelihood, may he too go abegging and perish

இரந்தும் உயிர்வாழ்தல் வேண்டின் : Live a life of dependency taking alms.
One of the criteria applied by Kerala Government is to identify those who were dependent on others for meeting out their basic needs of Food , clothing and Shelter.

பரந்து கெடுக : Wander and Perish

உலகியற்றி யான்: The creator who made this world so

This is where the statement of The Chief Minister gets true to the words - Kerala - God's own Country.

105.Chapter நல்குரவு Poverty
Chapter 105 explains what Poverty really is and how painful it is.
In couplet
Kural 1041:
இன்மையின் இன்னாத தியாதெனின் இன்மையின்
இன்மையே இன்னா தது

Couplet:
You ask what sharper pain than poverty is known;
Nothing pains more than poverty, save poverty alone

இன்மையின் இன்னாத தியாதெனின் - what is more painful than poverty

இன்மையின் இன்மையே இன்னா தது - No doubt Poverty is the most abject and miserable pain and there is nothing as painful as it is.

Kural 1049:
நெருப்பினுள் துஞ்சலும் ஆகும் நிரப்பினுள்
யாதொன்றும் கண்பா டரிது

One may sleep in the midst of fire; but by no means in the midst of poverty

One can live amidst fire but Living in Poverty is more painful and gruesome than any other pains and hence removing Extreme Poverty from a Governments view is not only it's duty but a Divine intervention

நெருப்பினுள் துஞ்சலும் ஆகும் : It's possible to sleep encircled by fire.

நிரப்பினுள் @யாதொன்றும் கண்பா டரிது: it's impossible to live in abject Poverty.

No doubt Kerala is a state driven by Remittance Economy and this remittances flow was not by chance but a movement from 1957 - the land reforms bill followed by the Mass Literacy Program culminating in the First 100 % Literacy that the state still stands with heads high.

Kural 397:
யாதானும் நாடாமால் ஊராமால் என்னொருவன்

The learned make each land their own, in every city find a home;
Who, till they die; learn nought, along what weary ways they roam

Is about not doing Evil to others.
The Great Saint Valluvar States that if thee love thyself then they should do no harm or evil to others.
Harm through words, thoughts and physique needs to be abstained from.

தன்னைத்தான் காதல னாயின் எனைத்தொன்றுந்
துன்னற்க தீவினைப் பால்

Transliteration:

Pakainatpaam: when past enemies come as friends Kaalam Varungaal: test the correct time
Mukanattu: Show outward friendship in face alone
Akanatpu : With no internal friendship held
Oreei Vital: And leave their company at the right time immediately.

As a Nation, we agreed for ceasefire in 1948, 1965, 1971 and in Kargil , All when we had the upper hand.
As the war has broken , I am personally not in an agreement for ceasing the war and the way the same declared by the bullying Trump.
