Although September 8 this year was not commemorated in the liturgical calendar as the Nativity of Mary because it falls on a Sunday, and yet in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation of the Carmelite Monastery in Vilvoorde, Belgium, hundreds of pilgrims and visitors paid birthday homage to Our Blessed Mother Mary.
On Saturday, Sept 7- Around 60 pilgrims from Brussels, led by our Carmelite Fathers and brothers, celebrated the Holy Mass in French.
On Sunday, Sept 8 from 12 noon to 6pm - Open Monument Day in Belgium, about 100 people were received by our volunteer guides.
The visitors received an explanation in Flemish about the spiritual, historical, and cultural importance of this precious heritage reason why it has been elevated to a basilica since May 7, 2006.
In the evening, there was an English Mass organized by the Filipino community and celebrated by Fr. Henrik Maria Duenas, OCD, from Brugges community.
Finally, on Sunday, Sept 9 - More than 400 students and teachers of Our Lady's College in Vilvoorde conducted a day of recollection/reflection to start the school year 2024-2025.
This was the 4th time that they came: September last year, Advent 2023, and during Holy Week this year. It is always inspiring to see young people in silent meditation while listening to a story from the Holy Scriptures, reflection text, and meditative music in between played by 5 musicians (also students and teachers).
