"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest."

As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, let the meditative Gregorian chant “Take my yoke” sung by Harpa Dei guide your prayer today. A beautiful musical reflection on the meek and humble heart of Christ.

TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

The Eucharist at Sint-Kwinten will be celebrated at 18:00, as usual. All are welcome to join us for this celebration.

Here is a brief history of how this devotion developed:
• Devotion to the Sacred Heart can be traced back to the late Middle Ages, particularly through the mystical writings of Saint Gertrude the Great.
• A feast of the Sacred Heart was first celebrated in France in 1670, under the direction of Saint John Eudes, founder of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary.
• The saint most closely associated with this devotion is Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a Visitation nun whose visions and mystical experiences were supported by her spiritual director, Saint Claude de la Colombière.
• The liturgy for this Solemnity invites the faithful to reflect on the love and mercy of God revealed in Christ.

Prayer
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that we, who glory in the Heart of your beloved Son
and recall the wonders of his love for us,
may be made worthy to receive
an overflowing measure of grace
from that fount of heavenly gifts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

“He is a God who is close to us, who walks with his people, the Lord of history. He is comfort to the weak, light for families, hope for the sick and peace for those who suffer. The Christ who processes through the streets in the monstrance is the same one who identifies with the poor, the downtrodden, those who are alone and forsaken.”

On this Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we invite you to pray with this beautiful rendition of "Tantum Ergo Sacramentum". Composed by St. Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century specifically for this feast, these ancient words remind us that where our human senses fail to see, faith steps in to reveal the mystery. Let this sacred music prepare our hearts to take Christ out into the world this evening.

✨ CELEBRATING CORPUS CHRISTI IN LEUVEN ✨

“I pray that this Eucharistic spring may spread ever more widely to all parishes, particularly in Belgium, the homeland of Saint Juliana.”
— Pope Benedict XVI (17 November 2010)

Did you know that the worldwide Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) has Belgian roots? We owe this beautiful solemnity to Saint Juliana of Cornillon (1192–1258), an Augustinian sister from Liège.

🌕 The Visions: From 1209, Juliana saw visions of a full moon with a black spot. She interpreted this as a missing feast in the liturgical calendar to honor the Eucharist.
🙏 Eucharistic Devotion: She dedicated her life to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
⛪ Establishing the Feast: In 1246, she convinced the Bishop of Liège to start a local feast. Later, Jacques Pantaléon de Troyes—whom Juliana had known whilst he served as archdeacon in Liège—became Pope Urban IV and established Corpus Christi for the universal Church in 1264.

Join us as we carry on this beautiful tradition right here in Leuven!

Today we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and Mary, and the birth of Christ’s Church.

Pentecost reminds us that God’s Spirit moves within human hearts. Where fear and division prevail, the Spirit brings courage, unity, and hope. How greatly we stand in need of that same Spirit today, within our families, our faith communities, and the wider world.

We wish you and your loved ones a truly blessed and grace-filled Solemnity of Pentecost! 🔥
