Today, September 8th, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This is one of the most ancient Marian feasts in the Church, originating in 6th-century Jerusalem at the traditional site of Mary's parental home. It stands as one of only three nativities celebrated on the Roman calendar, alongside those of Jesus and Saint John the Baptist. On this feast, the Church looks to Mary not only as the Mother of God, but also as the disciple who serves as the ultimate example and model of the Christian life. Through her profound faith, her care for others, and her steadfast trust during the darkest moments, she remains a constant refuge and comfort for the people of God.

At Sint-Kwinten, we pray on this special Marian feast day for her intercession and blessings upon our entire parish community. We wish everyone a truly blessed and peaceful feast day!

WAT EEN PRACHTIGE EN BETEKENISVOLLE MIJLPAAL

Op 30 augustus werd onze pas geverfde kapel officieel ingehuldigd. Na de eucharistieviering gingen we in processie naar de kapel, waar René Clerckx, als voorzitter van de kerkraad, de poort mocht openen. Pater Walter en priester Nani spraken een gebed uit, waarna de kapel en het Mariabeeld werden gezegend. Iedereen kon daarna een kaarsje aansteken.

Onze oprechte dank aan de kerkraad voor de financiering, en aan de vrijwilligers die dagelijks de kapel openen en sluiten.

🙏 Gebed bij de heropening van de kapel
O Maria, Moeder met de Schutsmantel, vandaag openen wij de deuren van deze kapel met vreugde en dankbaarheid. Nu mag ze opnieuw stralen en een open plek zijn in onze buurt. Spreid uw brede mantel over dit huis van stilte en gebed.
Laat uw mantel een veilige haven zijn voor wie moe is of belast, een deken van vrede in moeilijke tijden, en een teken dat niemand hier ooit alleen staat. Zegen allen die over deze drempel stappen. Geef hun rust in het hart, troost bij verdriet, en de moed om met een nieuwe blik en hoop verder te gaan. Laat deze herboren kapel een bron van warmte en verbondenheid zijn voor velen. Wij vragen het u door Christus onze Heer. Amen.

🙏 Prayer at the reopening of the chapel
O Mary, Mother of the Sheltering Mantle, today we open the doors of this chapel with joy and gratitude. May it shine once again and be an open place in our community. Spread your wide mantle over this house of silence and prayer.
Let your mantle be a safe haven for those who are weary or burdened, a blanket of peace in difficult times, and a sign that no one here ever stands alone. Bless all who cross this threshold. Grant them peace in their hearts, comfort in times of grief, and the courage to move forward with a fresh perspective and hope. May this reborn chapel be a source of warmth and connection for many. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

LOURDES REUNION / FOLLOW-UP GATHERING

After our beautiful pilgrimage to Lourdes this past July, we would love to come together once again! Everyone, including those who haven't been to Lourdes (yet), is more than welcome to join us on Sunday, September 6th at 5:00 PM for our monthly international Eucharistic celebration, this time in the spirit of Saint Louis de Montfort, at Sint-Pieter's Church in the center pf Leuven.

Afterwards, we will continue our gathering and catch up at Brasserie Agora, right next to the church. It will be a wonderful time for a chat, a drink, and sharing beautiful memories.

Na onze mooie bedevaart naar Lourdes komen we graag nog eens samen! 💙

Iedereen (ook wie (nog) niet naar Lourdes is gegaan) is meer dan welkom op zondag 6 september om 17 uur in de maandelijkse internationale viering, ditmaal in de geest van Heilige Montfort, in de Sint-Pieterskerk van Leuven.

Daarna zetten we de ontmoeting gezellig verder in Brasserie Agora, naast de kerk. Tijd voor een babbeltje, een drankje en mooie herinneringen.

FEAST OF SAINT AUGUSTINE OF HIPPO

Today we celebrate Saint Augustine. Seeker, thinker, teacher, bishop… but above all, a human being who at last surrendered his heart to God. His life reminds us that faith does not mean we never struggle or search. Sometimes, it is precisely in that searching that God comes to meet us.

Centuries later, his words still resonate deeply: “Our heart is restless until it rests in You.”

In the photo, we see Saint Augustine together with Saint Thomas Aquinas. This 18th-century painting by the Leuven painter Pieter Jozef Verhaghen is located in our Sint-Pieter’s Church. Two great thinkers, united by their desire to understand faith and reason, God and humanity, ever more deeply.

Saint Augustine, pray for us. 🙏

FEEST VAN SINT-AUGUSTINUS VAN HIPPO

Vandaag vieren we Sint-Augustinus. Zoeker, denker, leraar, bisschop… Maar bovenal een mens die zijn hart uiteindelijk bij God vond. Zijn leven herinnert ons eraan dat geloven niet betekent dat je nooit twijfelt of zoekt. Soms is het juist in dat zoeken dat God ons tegemoetkomt.

Zijn woorden blijven eeuwen later nog altijd aanspreken: “Onrustig is ons hart, totdat het rust vindt in U.”

Op de foto zien we Sint-Augustinus samen met de heilige Thomas van Aquino, afgebeeld op een 18e-eeuws schilderij van de Leuvense schilder Pieter Jozef Verhaghen, dat zich in onze Sint-Pieterskerk bevindt. Twee grote denkers, verbonden door hun verlangen om geloof en verstand, God en mens, steeds dieper te begrijpen.

HANDEN UIT DE MOUWEN: GROTE SCHOONMAAK VOOR DE EREMIS VAN BR. JASON O.P.

Op zondag 27 september viert br. Jason O.P. zijn eremis in onze kerk. Een bijzonder en feestelijk moment waar we enorm naar uitkijken! Om hem een warm en stralend welkom te heten, willen we de kerk vooraf extra laten blinken. ✨

Vele handen maken licht werk! Steek jij ook de handen uit de mouwen? Alle hulp is meer dan welkom, al is het maar voor een uurtje (of twee).

📅 Wanneer: Zaterdag 19 september, aansluitend aan de mis van 8.30 uur.
🧹 Wat: Grondige poetsbeurt van het koor en de sacristieën.

On Sunday, September 27th, Br. Jason O.P. will celebrate his first Solemn Mass (eremis) in our church. A very special and festive moment we are greatly looking forward to! To give him a warm and radiant welcome, we want to make the church sparkle. ✨

Many hands make light work! Will you join us and roll up your sleeves? All help is more than welcome, even if it is just for an hour (or two).

📅 When: Saturday, September 19th, right after the 8:30 AM Mass.
🧹 What: Deep cleaning of the choir and the sacristies.
