Historic First BeNeLux Family Conference Held in Belgium

The first-ever BeNeLux Family Conference of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,
Diocese of UK, Europe & Africa, was prayerfully and successfully held on 23rd and
24th May 2026 at Hotton, Belgium. This historic gathering brought together Orthodox
families from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France for a spiritually
enriching weekend of worship, fellowship, learning, and renewal.
The conference was held under the theme “Go and Do Likewise” (St. Luke 10:37),
drawing inspiration from the Parable of the Good Samaritan and encouraging
participants to reflect on Christian compassion, mercy, and service in family life, parish
communities, and society at large.
The conference was inaugurated by His Eminence Abraham Mar Stephanos
Metropolitan, President of the Conference, following a welcome address by Mr. Manu
John, General Convenor. In his inaugural message, His Eminence exhorted the faithful
to become living witnesses of Christ’s love by extending care, compassion, and
support to those in need.
The gathering was enriched by a series of inspiring sessions delivered by His
Eminence Abraham Mar Stephanos Metropolitan, Dr. Sen Varghese, and Dr. Manoj
Kurian (WCC). Through their reflections, participants were encouraged to strengthen
Christian family values, nurture spiritual wellbeing, and cultivate a spirit of service and
neighbourly love in their daily lives.
A spiritual session on the Sacrament of Holy Confession was conducted by Rev. Fr.
Jibin Thomas Abraham, providing an opportunity for participants to engage in prayerful
reflection, repentance, and spiritual renewal.
The younger members of the conference actively participated in the OVBS programme
coordinated by Mrs. Dimple Subin, which offered faith-based learning and fellowship
in a joyful and engaging environment.
The conference was further blessed by the presence and ministry of Rev. Fr. Aashu
Alexander Mattackal and Rev. Fr. Jibin Thomas Abraham, whose pastoral guidance
and spiritual leadership contributed greatly to the success of the gathering.
The conference concluded with the celebration of the Holy Qurbana and the Service
of Holy Pentecost on Sunday, led by His Eminence Abraham Mar Stephanos
Metropolitan and assisted by the clergy.

During the closing session, participants shared their reflections on the conference
experience. Mr. Rinu Cherian delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to His
Eminence, the clergy, speakers, organising committee, volunteers, and all participants
whose dedication and commitment made the conference a memorable and blessed
occasion.

As the inaugural Family Conference of the BeNeLux Region, the event marked a
significant milestone in the life and ministry of the Church in Europe. Beyond the
sessions and activities, it fostered a deeper sense of unity among families and
renewed a collective commitment to live out the Gospel message in everyday life.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to Almighty God for His abundant blessings and pray that
the fruits of this conference may continue to strengthen our families, parishes, and
communities for years to come.
