Shingon Buddhist Association Yo e an

Yo e an is a buddhist non-profit organization dedicated to the practice and study of Japanese Shingon buddhism. Yo e an is founded and directed by Shaku Jinsen.

It provides traditional Shingon Buddhist meditation practice and offers the possibility to join traditional Shingon ceremonies and rituals. Yo e an is a member of the Buddhist Union of Belgium. A graduate from the Japanse Studies Department of the Catholic University Leuven, he obtained a Masters Degree In Buddhist Studies at the Buddhist University of Koyasan, Japan. He became a disciple of the A

bbot of the Chingokuji-temple, Venerable Master Kosho Murai. He completed the traditional training program and officially received the title of Ajari ( Teacher ) from the head temple of the Shingon-school, the Kongobuji-temple. A two weekly meditation practice is conducted in Brussels on Sunday mornings from 9.30am till 10.30am. The practice is guided by Shaku Jinsen and explanations are offered in English. After the meditation practice teachings on the Buddhist dharma ( j*p. gohowa) are provided and questions can be asked. The practice is held all year round except for breaks during the months july–august and december. The practice requires no former training and can be joined at any time. Following traditional Buddhist custom it is based on free donation.

Big Circle in Japanse Garden, Hasselt, 12 june 2pm

On sunday 12 june Yo e an comes together. The participants of the different meditation groups join forces and come together to form a Big Circle. This will take place in the beautiful setting of the Japanese Garden in the city of Hasselt.

From 2pm until 5pm we join in prayer, study and mediation. After a traditional blessing ceremony, Shaku Jinsen will hold a Dharma-lecture on the topic of Insight and Compassion. We end the day in communal silence.

Of course, feel free to visit the beautiful garden beforehand!

The meditation-gathering at Serendip Spa on sunday 27th march will be a testimony in silence and prayer for the victims of the recent terror-attacks.
We will take time to mend our wounded harts and minds and unite in powerful silence, making a firm resolve to search a new road for humankind, a road leading to mutual understanding, a road leading away from violence and anger.

Everybody is invited to join in this moment of prayer and silence. We will recite the komyo-shingon, prayer of Light, and everybody will have the opportunity to offer a candle light as a symbol of warmth and understanding.

Buddhist Commemoration Service fot the victims of the 11 march 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami disaster.

March 13, sunday 17.00. Japanse Garden, Hasselt.

As part of the commemoration weekend held in the Japanse Garden in Hasselt, Shaku Jinsen will hold a prayer service for the victims of the eartquake and tsunami-disaster. You can purchase and offer a candle, the money will be used to fund the rebuilding of the disaster area. You can witness the rebuiling-project with a special photo-exhibition.

Feel free to join in this prayer service, sending a message of hope and courage.

Personal sessions with Shaku Jinsen.

If you feel the need to talk to someone, or have any questions concerning the buddhist path on a personal level, a private counceling with Shaku Jinsen is always possible. Preferably on weekdays between 9.00 am-14.00pm. Other hours are also possible, after making an appointment.

Just contact us at [email protected] and we will be waiting for you with a cup of tea, a listening ear and some inspiration from the buddhist tradition for your own personal path.

Monthly prayer services provided at Yo e an.

If you wish to explore the buddhist path and the shingon-tradition in depth, feel free to join one of the monthly prayer services at Yo e an. They are held in the evening from 7pm till 8pm on the following dates:

8th of each month: prayer service for Shakya Muni, the historical buddha.
18th of each month: prayer service for Kan'non Bosatsu, bodhisattva of compassion.
21th of each month: prayer service for Kobo Daishi, founder of the Shingon-school
28th of each month: prayer service for Fudo Myo'o, protector-deity of shingon-buddhist practitioners.

Open to all, no registration needed.

Spring Segaki Kuyo-ceremony, sunday 20th March, 2.00pm

On the spring equinox we perform the tradtional Segaki Kuyo-ceremony. A traditional Shingon-buddhist ceremony in which we offer prayer and food to all living beings suffering from harmful egocentrical action. We extend our feelings of empathy even to those beings who have commited faults and wrong actions, and try to carry some of their suffering and redirect them to the path of insight and compassion.
The ceremony takes place at Yo e an center, from 2 pm onwards and is open to all.

Traditional New Year-rituals at Yo e an.

Following the traditional calender, New Year-rituals are executed during the first two weeks of februari. On sunday 7th feb. we perfom the Butsumyo'e ceremony, making 300 bows and cleansing ourselves from any negativity commited by our mistakes and returning to our original purity and humility. On sunday 14th join us for the Shusho'e-ceremony, reciting the names of all Buddha's and recieving all blessings for the coming year. We especially renew our karmic connection to the buddhist protector deity Fudo Myo'o, asking inspiration and guidance to become firmly resolved on the path of inner wisdom and compassion.

Both ceremonies are open to everyone and are held at the Yoean-centre in Neerijse from 2 o'clock pm.
