🌲 Sylvestris Pine Progress 🌲

Another session working and developing this pine — and each refinement brings the tree closer to its future vision. The structure is becoming more defined, the movement more balanced, and the character continues to mature with every styling.

There’s still work ahead. Some branches need time to fill out and gain more strength, but we’re very happy with the direction this tree is taking. If development continues well, we believe it will be ready for a more fitting pot next year. 🪴

Bonsai is always about patience, refinement, and long-term vision — and this Scots pine keeps rewarding the journey.

We purchased the tree from .rost.bonsai in 2022 and gave the second styling last year june. Here are some pictures of the progression

From a struggling slope to a sculptural hillside garden in the heart of Switzerland 🇨🇭✨

This steep garden in St. Gallen was originally planted with junipers, but without additional soil and with very limited sunlight, they never truly had the chance to thrive. Instead of forcing the wrong planting into the space, we created a completely new design that works with the environment — not against it.

Our focus for this project was CONTRAST.
Deep, rich textures against light and movement. Strong structure balanced with softness. Every element chosen to complement the natural character of the hillside.

🌿 We introduced stunning dark green Azalea ‘Osakazuki’, which around this season bursts into beautiful purple-pink blooms that completely transform the slope.

🌿 The elegant Enkianthus balls bring lightness with their soft green foliage, graceful trunks, and flowing movement. Their delicate white flowers add subtle beauty in spring, while autumn turns them into fiery shades of red and orange.

🌿 As the centerpiece, we placed a high-quality Taxus niwaki with dramatic movement and layered foliage clouds — giving the garden timeless structure and a strong architectural presence.

⛰️ Combined with carefully selected Chinese ornamental rocks, the entire composition now feels natural, balanced, and full of atmosphere.

A garden should not only look beautiful — but every element should compliment eachother . And this hillside now finally does. ✨

After and Before Styling — Picea Yamadori 🌲

This beautiful Picea yamadori was brought to us by our customer Frank for a styling session.

What makes this tree even more special is that Frank collected it himself high in the mountains — a true piece of natural history with character shaped by the elements.
From a raw mountain tree to a refined bonsai with movement and direction, this styling focused on preserving the rugged spirit of the yamadori while revealing its future potential.

April 16th we had Richard over for a private workshop, and once again it reminded us why we love these one-on-one sessions so much.

The beauty of these days is the depth—real progress gets made, ideas flow freely, and there’s space to share knowledge in a calm, focused, and enjoyable atmosphere. Every tree gets the attention it deserves, with thoughtful discussion and clear development steps.

During this session:
– A black cypress grafted with itoigawa was repotted
– A Pinus sylvestris was styled
– A mugo, developed by Richard himself (great job!), was refined with subtle but impactful adjustments

From exhibition to evolution 🌲

Back in 2023 at the Leie exhibition, we had a sales stand where we started working on this beautiful Pinus sylvestris. With the wiring help of Dries and Dieter,

Last year, the tree found a new home with a passionate customer. And this year, the journey continues — a second styling and a fresh repot into this elegant Shigeharu bonsai pot.

Always rewarding to see a tree progress step by step, season after season. Bonsai is never finished — it just keeps evolving.
