Bolleke, our Tilorien Monastery cat, has approved of the new Ikea chairs we purchased for Vesak (but she hasn't allowed us to unpack and assemble them!). She is 19 years old now, and since the beginning of the monastery, she has been a source of metta for all who visited. Now she is very ill, needing frequent vet visits, medicines, and special food. If you wish to support us in taking care of her and give her a good remainder of her life, please consider a donation. Details are on our website: https://www.samita.be/en/donations/

Ayya Gunasari Bhikkhuni passed away
yesterday afternoon.

Ayya Gunasari, the first Burmese Bhikkhuni, passed away in Mahapajapati Monastery near Los Angeles. She had been quite ill for some years, living in the monastery with a daily carer.

Her strength and resilience has been a true inspiration for many people. She had an enormous love of the Dhamma and of studying; her huge collection of rare Dhamma books was a true treasure-trove of information that she would share with anyone who came to visit.

I’ve been very fortunate to live with her for a year in total and am happy that I have been able to say goodbye to her a little over a year ago. I thank my higher ordination to this extraordinary Bhikkhuni.

During Easter Garden weekend at Tilorien Monastery our wonderful volunteers worked hard to clean up the garden, rake leaves, take out weeds and plant flower meadows for the pollinators.

And more recently Upāsaka Manomaya made new signs for the monastery ... a true maestro at work! The monastery has beautiful new entry signs for the car park and entrance.

This beautiful drawing was made by one of our participants of the march retreat in Finnhamn, Sweden inside the Kindfulness book by Ajahn Brahm. It gives a good impression of the surroundings and especially the atmosphere on this amazing island.

And just as it happens, Ven. Vimala will be doing a kindfulness meditation series on isangha. Do join us from 8th to 18th May for the online morning and evening meditations! More info https://www.samita.be/en/isangha/
