Dear young people,
On behalf of the Poverello community I would like to invite you wholeheartedly to spend some months in Poverello, at the service of those who appeal to us. As for us Poverello is a real school of life we would like to share our experience with you. The Taizé proposal of small provisional communities of solidarity brought us a step further. We are convinced that your participatio
n in the life and the service in Poverello can be a beautiful and enriching experience that help you to orientate and enlarge your further life in a meaningful and joyful way. The encounter with people who have ended up on the outskirts of our modern society questions us and questions the values our consumer society impresses upon us. Acting together
with many different people to create a home for those who have no home anymore is a very concrete way to build a better world but it is also a challenge for us to work on ourselves. The key element in the event is that we try to realize this together out of the appeal that comes from the gospel, where Jesus says "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." (Jn 15,12), and "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matt. 25:40) To fulfill such a commitment, communion with Jesus is
necessary, that's why prayer has a place in the event. One of the tasks for the young people, who want to commit themselves, is taking care of the daily noon prayer, inspired by the Taizé prayer, in which others can take part. Or as it is mentioned in the little Poverello rule of life "As Jesus would welcome here the little ones, so we should do. This means that our hospitality cannot be merely material : the most
essential is the heart. We cannot build a true relationship as long as we do not live with them: we must learn to know, respect, help and love them... If our friendship is essential for them, from their
side they will help us even more ea. to get out of our self-centeredness." Do you feel appealed to share your live for some months with us, Poverello-people, know you will be given a hearty welcome! It is an adventure with and for others, with yourself and also with the Lord. Wholeheartedly
Johan
