« D’UN ARBRE SÉCULAIRE »

Strophes 1 et 2 en français,
suivi du premier strophe en anglais

1 D'un arbre séculaire,
du vieux tronc d'Isaï,
durant l'hiver austère,
un frais rameau jaillit;

“LO, HOW A ROSE E’ER BLOOMING”

Verses 1 and 2 in French,
followed by the first verse in English

1 From a secular tree,
from the old trunk of Jesse,
during the austere winter,
a fresh branch sprang up;
and, on the hardened ground
in the calm, clear night,
a rose blossomed.

2 God, through the fervent voice,
of many servants,
to a waiting people,
promised a Savior.
He comes, supreme honor,
to a humble servant,
to her pure happiness.

(1) Lo, how a rose, e'er blooming,
from tender stem has sprung,
of Jesse's lineage coming
by faithful prophets sung.
It came a flow’ret bright,
amid the cold of winter
when half spent was the night.

We’ve been getting the church ready for Advent, waiting for Christmas! We invite you to celebrate the Advent season with us in a service of "Advent Lessons and Carols" on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 4 p.m. in the church of Notre Dame de Blankedelle, Avenue des Héros 40, 1160 Auderghem. The celebration will be followed by a reception.

This Advent celebration will alternate Bible readings and carols. The Bible readings will focus on the prophecies of the Messiah in the Old Testament. Not only the choir, but the whole congregation supported by the choir, will sing most of the songs, including well-known Advent and Christmas carols. All texts and hymns will be available in English and French, and the celebration will take place in both languages.

Come and join us in celebrating this Advent season.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our Centennial and Thanksgiving celebration: our Centennial Committee and Fellowship Team that planned the day; the musicians who made the worship service so festive; the Women of the Church who set the tables and organized the food; our guest Üllas Tankler who brought greetings on behalf of the United Methodist Church (which founded IPC 100 years ago); Pierre-Félix Ndam and our guests from the Ixelles church that shared our beginnings at Champs de Mars; members of our host church, the Catholic Church of Notre Dame du Blankedelle; representatives from our denomination, the United Protestant Church of Belgium (EPUB), and everyone who brought food and shared in the fun! Thank you, too, to Lyubov Pronina, whose photos recorded the day's event.

Thank you to the Women of the Church who are ready to celebrate our Centennial!

HEADS UP EVERYONE! 🤗

On Sunday November 19, 2023 The International Protestant Church of Brussels will be celebrating “American Thanksgiving” with a Pot Luck Style Luncheon starting around 12:30 / 12:45 pm, following the 11:15 worship service.

All are welcome. Bring the whole family and invite some friends to join you. Turkey will be prepared and provided by a few church families, but the rest of the meal will be up to the rest of YOU.

Very special at this year’s Thanksgiving Sunday worship service and the luncheon that follows will be the commemoration and celebration of the 100th birthday of our church. We anticipate being joined by a number of guests from our sister and host church congregations as well as by representatives from the EPUB, our Belgian protestant denominational family.

As a point of clarification, we weren’t called IPC back then, in November 1923, nor in many of the years that followed. Originally founded as a Methodist Mission Church, we later became known as The Wesley Church. After being shuttered during WWII, we came back to life as The American Protestant Church and then, finally, as we are today, The International Protestant Church of Brussels.
Please join us on this festive day of thanksgiving!

This Sunday is All Saints Sunday, a day when we remember all the saints who have gone before us and who will follow us. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, enjoyed and celebrated All Saints Day. In a journal entry from November 1767, Wesley calls it “a festival I truly love.” On the ...
