Monowara Parvin Moni is an unusual woman. Unlike the majority of women in Bangladesh, she wears trousers and rides her motorbike. And she moves around anywhere, even at night.
“I used to live a traditional life, serving my husband and his family. But all that changed when I came in contact with Diakonia’s partner organization MKP. I realised I don’t have to bend for anyone. “

"I learnt how to ride a bicycle by myself, without telling anyone. I used to practise on my brother's bicycle. My bicycle is very dear to me. It saves time when I go to school and I can easily visit friends. When I get married, I will do everything in my power to convince my husband about all the benefits of women riding a bicycle." Says 17 years old Onila Roni Roy from Bangladesh. In the area where she lives, girls are traditionally not supposed to ride a bicycle. But our partner organization MKP has encouraged Onila Roni Roy and her friends at school to enjoy the benefits of bicycling.
