Du'a is worship. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that. (Tirmidhi) Not a supplement to the real worship. The substance of it. Allah connected the promise of response directly to calling on Him. He also said: those who disdain My worship will enter Hell in humiliation. The word for worship in that warning is ibadah, the same as du'a. The one who does not call on Allah has not missed something extra. They have withheld something central.

Do not place your hopes in people, for they are weak and in need themselves. Place your trust in Allah, turn to Him often, and entrust all your affairs to Him.
