"Our Father" Jesus' insights on prayer!
"Our" speaks of together. A unity. Being joined. Belonging.
"Father" speaks of family. Home. House. Intimacy. Children.
When Jesus encouraged our approach to prayer He began with these 2 words. Our Father
No longer would God be a distant entity. Unapproachable. Unhappy. Kind of grumpy. Needing a system of rituals to come before Him. The whole idea of us being unclean, unworthy to be in His presence, was being changed.
Our Father. 2 glorious words. God wants to be known as a tender hearted Father who loves His children. Wants His children to enjoy belonging to Him as one family.
This is why He sent His Son to earth. He actually came in the form of a human man to reveal His Father's heart.
When we verbalize our hearts to Him Jesus taught us to say OUR FATHER.
Not Dear Holy One. ( He is). Not oh Great Creator. ( He is)
Not Master of the universe. ( He is). Not Owner of everything (He is) God is not the CEO of a company we submit plans to. He is not a local city council member ruling on matters.
He is not like the arm of a slot machine which if we pull on long enough the odds will be in our favour.
God is NOT like an authority figure who we have to measure up to. He is not grading us. He is NOT saying you may not be good enough. He is our Father giving us permanent right standing with Him!
So good to remember, to listen to Jesus say "this is how you pray" OUR FATHER
Jesus was powerfully intoducing the reality of our God being a Father with open arms, happy to embrace His children.
Cherishing a relationship restored. Truly a Dad holding His children on His lap speaking words of reassurance and security. Exactly what we need and were created for!
So be encouraged to run into your Daddy's arms today. Tell Him how your day is going. Share you hurts and disappointments. Give thanks for His many blessings.
He "OUR FATHER" is looking forward to spending time with you, even more than you are with Him. He is longing to be gracious to you! He wants you to know His love more!
"Our Father"....2 cherished words!
