অক্ষয় তৃতীয়া হল চান্দ্র বৈশাখ মাসের শুক্লপক্ষের তৃতীয়া তিথি। অক্ষয়
তৃতীয়া বিশেষ তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ তিথি। অক্ষয় শব্দের অর্থ হল যা ক্ষয়প্রাপ্ত
হয় না। বৈদিক বিশ্বাসানুসারে এই পবিত্র তিথিতে কোন শুভকার্য সম্পন্ন হলে
তা অনন্তকাল অক্ষয় হয়ে থাকে।
যদি ভালো কাজ করা হয় তার জন্যে আমাদের লাভ হয় অক্ষয় পূণ্য আর যদি
খারাপ কাজ করা হয় তবে লাভ হয় অক্ষয় পাপ। তাই এদিন খুব সাবধানে প্রতিটি
কাজ করা উচিত। খেয়াল রাখতে হয় ভুলেও যেন কোনো খারাপ কাজ না
হয়ে যায়। কখনো যেন কটু কথা না বেরোয় মুখ থেকে। কোনো
কারণে যেন কারো ক্ষতি না করে ফেলি বা কারো মনে আঘাত দিয়ে না
ফেলি। তাই এদিন যথাসম্ভব মৌন থাকা জরুরী। আর এদিন পূজা,জপ,ধ্যান,দ
ান,অপরের মনে আনন্দ দেয়ার মত কাজ করা উচিত। যেহেতু এই
তৃতীয়ার সব কাজ অক্ষয় থাকে তাই প্রতিটি পদক্ষেপ ফেলতে হয়
সতর্কভাবে। এদিনটা ভালোভাবে কাটানোর অর্থ সাধনজগতের অনেকটা
পথ একদিনে চলে ফেলা। এবারের অক্ষয়তৃতীয়া সবার ভালো কাটুক -
এই কামনায় করি।
এদিন যেসকল তাত্পর্যপূর্ণ ঘটনা ঘটেছিল।
১) এদিনই বিষ্ণুর ষষ্ঠ অবতার পরশুরাম জন্ম নেন পৃথিবীতে।
২) এদিনই রাজা ভগীরথ গঙ্গা দেবীকে মর্ত্যে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন।
৩) এদিনই গণপতি গনেশ বেদব্যাসের মুখনিঃসৃত বাণী শুনে মহাভারত রচনা
শুরু করেন।
৪) এদিনই দেবী অন্নপূর্ণার আবির্ভাব ঘটে।
৫) এদিনই সত্যযুগ শেষ হয়ে ত্রেতাযুগের সূচনা হয়।
৬) এদিনই কুবেরের তপস্যায় তুষ্ট হয়ে মহাদেব তাঁকে অতুল ঐশ্বর্য
প্রদান করেন। এদিনই কুবেরের লক্ষ্মী লাভ হয়েছিল বলে এদিন
বৈভব-লক্ষ্মীর পূজা করা হয়।
৭) এদিনই ভক্তরাজ সুদামা শ্রী কৃষ্ণের সাথে দ্বারকায় গিয়ে দেখা
করেন এবং তাঁর থেকে সামান্য চালভাজা নিয়ে শ্রী কৃষ্ণ তাঁর সকল দুখ্হ
মোচন করেন।
৮) এদিনই দুঃশাসন দ্রৌপদীর বস্ত্রহরণ করতে যান এবং সখী কৃষ্ণাকে
রক্ষা করেন শ্রীকৃষ্ণ। শরনাগতের পরিত্রাতা রূপে এদিন শ্রী কৃষ্ণা
দ্রৌপদীকে রক্ষা করেন।
৯) এদিন থেকেই পুরীধামে জগন্নাথদেবের রথযাত্রা উপলক্ষ্যে রথ
নির্মাণ শুরু হয়।
১০) কেদার বদরী গঙ্গোত্রী যমুনত্রীর যে মন্দির ছয়মাস বন্ধ
থাকে এইদিনেই তার দ্বার উদঘাটন হয়। দ্বার খুললেই দেখা যায় সেই
অক্ষয়দীপ যা ছয়মাস আগে জ্বালিয়ে আসা হয়েছিল।
১১) এদিনই সত্যযুগের শেষ হয়ে প্রতি কল্পে ত্রেতা যুগ শুরু হয়।

ধর্মরাজ যুধিষ্ঠির একবার মহামুনি শতানিককে অক্ষয় তৃতীয়া তিথির মাহাত্ম্য
কীর্তন করতে বললেন ।
শতানিক বললেন পুরাকালে খুব ক্রোধসর্বস্ব , নিষ্ঠুর এক ব্রাহ্মণ ছিলেন
। ধর্মকর্মে তার বিন্দুমাত্র আগ্রহ ছিলনা । একদিন এক দরিদ্র ক্ষুধার্ত ব্রাহ্মণ
তার নিকট অন্ন এবং জল ভিক্ষা চাইলেন । রণচন্ডী হয়ে ব্রাহ্মণ কর্কশ
স্বরে তাঁর দুয়ার থেকে ভিখারীকে দূর দূর করে তাড়িয়ে দিলেন আর
বললেন যে অন্যত্র ভিক্ষার চেষ্টা করতে ।
ক্ষুধা-পিপাসায় কাতর ভিখারী চলে যেতে উদ্যত হল ।
ব্রাহ্মণ পত্নী সুশীলা অতিথির অবমাননা দেখতে না পেরে দ্রুত
স্বামীর নিকট উপস্থিত হয়ে ভরদুপুরে অতিথি সত্কার না হলে সংসারের
অমঙ্গল হবে এবং গৃহের ধন সমৃদ্ধি লোপ পাবে ... একথা জানালেন ।
স্বামীর দিক থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে ভিখারীকে তিনি ডাক দিলেন এবং
ভিখারীর অন্যত্র যাবার প্রয়োজন নেই সে কথা জানালেন । সুশীলা
ত্রস্তপদে তার জন্য অন্নজল আনবার ব্যবস্থা করলেন । কিছুপরেই তিনি
অতিথি ভিক্ষুকের সামনে সুশীতল জল এবং অন্ন-ব্যঞ্জন নিয়ে হাজির
হলেন । ভিখারী বামুন অতীব সন্তুষ্ট হলেন এবং সে যাত্রায় সুশীলাকে
আশীর্বাদ করে সেই অন্নজল দানকে অক্ষয় দান বলে অভিহিত করে
চলে গেলেন ।
বহুবছর পর সেই উগ্রচন্ড ব্রাহ্মণের অন্তিমকাল উপস্থিত হল । যমদূতেরা
এসে তার শিয়রে হাজির । ব্রাহ্মণের দেহপিঞ্জর ছেড়ে তার প্রাণবায়ু
বের হ'ল বলে । তার শেষের সেই ভয়ঙ্কর সময় উপস্থিত । ক্ষুধা ও
তৃষ্ণায় তার কন্ঠ ও তালু শুকিয়ে গেল । তার ওপর যমদূতেদের কঠোর
অত্যাচার । ব্রাহ্মণ তাদের কাছে দুফোঁটা জল চাইল এবং তাকে সে যাত্রায়
উদ্ধার করতে বলল ।
যমদূতেরা তখন একহাত নিল ব্রাহ্মণের ওপর ।
তারা বলল " মনে নেই ? তুমি তোমার গৃহ থেকে অতিথি ভিখারীকে
নির্জ্জলা বিদেয় করেছিলে ?"
বলতে বলতে তারা ব্রাহ্মণকে টানতে টানতে ধর্মরাজের কাছে নিয়ে
গেল ।
ধর্মরাজ ব্রাহ্মণের দিকে তাকিয়ে বললেন " এঁকে কেন আমার কাছে
এনেছ্? ইনি মহা পুণ্যবান ব্যক্তি ।বৈশাখমাসের শুক্লা তৃতীয়া তিথিতে এনার
পত্নী তৃষ্ণার্ত অতিথিকে অন্নজল দান করেছেন । এই দানঅক্ষয় দান ।
সেই পুণ্যে ইনি পুণ্যাত্মা । আর সেই পুণ্যফলে এনার নরক গমন হবেনা ।
ব্রাহ্মণকে তোমরা জল দাও । এনার প্রাণবায়ু নির্গত হতে দাও । শীঘ্রই ইনি
স্বর্গে গমন করবেন "
