The Aggamedha kyaung of Cox's Bazar has been standing since the time of foundation of Cox's Bazar town. It is the only oldest and one of the most beautiful pagodas of the town. It faced a number of devastating natural calamities for many occasions and no cyclone could make any harm against it as it had been constructed with ironwood of Rakhine more than one hundred years ago. A good number of statues of Lord Buddha of marble, wood and bronze in different poses and shapes have been brought from various parts of Myanmar after its construction. It has been regularly visited by a good number of devotees, pilgrims, tourists and visitors from far and near to have a glimpse on it, as it is the most attractive to them. It is the only oldest kyaung of the town having its past glory for flourishing Buddhism throughout the area. In the past it was imparted center of education in Buddhism. Monks were given education in Buddhism in the past besides basic Rakhine language education was imparted to the young children of the Rakhine community.
