Haj in numbers- Almost 1.4 million pilgrims from around the world have already arrived. A total of about two million, including hundreds of thousands from within the Kingdom, are expected.- The world's largest Muslim-populated nation, Indonesia, has sent more than 168,000 pilgrims.- 80 percent of international pilgrims come in official Haj delegations from their countries. The other 20 percent come through private operators.- About 100,000 police force has been deployed to maintain safety of pilgrims, and manage traffic and crowds.- The Health Ministry has mobilized 25,000 additional healthcare workers. To care for ailing pilgrims it has 5,000 beds, including 500 for intensive care. There are eight seasonal hospitals which complement permanent medicalfacilities.- 12 new plasma screens, each more than two meters (yards) wide, will broadcast messages to pilgrims outside the Grand Mosque.- The Grand Mosque is being expanded by roughly 400,000 square meters (4.3-million-square-feet) which is the equivalent of more than 50 football pitches.- The average spending for every pilgrim comingfrom abroad is between $4,600 to $5,000 during Haj season, according to Maher Jamal, chairmanof the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.- 740 fire hydrants and 800 taps are connected to a 100-kilometer water network, helping to ensure fire safety at Mina, where fireproof tents can accommodate 2.6 million pilgrims.

উমরাহ এবং ইহরাম

বাংলাদেশের হজযাত্রীগন যারা প্রথমে মক্কায় যান তারা আকাশপথেই মীক্বাত অতিক্রম করেন, তাই বাড়ী থেকে বা এয়ারপোর্ট থেকেই ইহরাম বেধে যেতে হবে। উমরাহর ফরজগুলো হচ্ছেঃ
(১) ইহরাম পরিধান করা
(২) ক্বাবা শরীফ ৭ বার তাওয়াফ করা

এবং ওয়াজিব হলঃ
(১) সাফা ও মারওয়া মধ্যবর্তী স্থানে সাতবার সায়ী করা
(২) মাথার চুল মুড়ানো বা ছাঁটা।

উমরার জন্য ইহরাম বাঁধতে হলে প্রথমে ওজু বা গোসল করে নিতে হয়; তারপর দুখানা নতুন বা পরিস্কার সেলাইবিহীন কাপড় -একটি লুঙ্গি এবং অপরটি গায়ের চাদর হিসেব পরে নিতে হয়; একটু সুগন্ধি মেখে নেয়া যায়। এর পর দুরাকায়াত সালাত পড়ে ইহরামের নিয়ত করতে হবে, তামাত্তু হজ হলে শুধু ইহরামের নিয়ত, হজ্জে ক্বিরাণ হলে, উমরাহ এবং হজের নিয়ত করতে হবে। নিয়তের জন্য মনে মনে এরকম ধারণা করলে চলবে, ইয়া আল্লাহ্! আমি উমরার নিয়ত করছি; তা আমার জন্য সহজ করে দিন এবং কবুল করুন। তারপর উচ্চস্বরে তিনবার তালবিয়া পড়ে নিলে ইহরাম বাধা হয়ে গেল।

গোড়ালি/টাখনু ঢাকবে না এরকম এক জোড়া সেন্ডেল পরিধান করা যাবে। মহিলারা হিজাব পরবেন, মুখ এবং কবজি থেকে হাতের আঙ্গুল আবৃত করবেন না।

ইহ্‌রাম অবস্থায় ইহ্‌রাম নষ্ট হয় এমন কাজকর্ম থেকে সবাই বিরত থাকবেন। ইহরাম অবস্থায় নিষিদ্ধ কাজঃ

(১) সেলাইযুক্ত যে কোন কাপড় ব্যবহার,
(২) মাথা ও মুখ ঢাকা (ইহরামের কাপড়সহ যে কোন কাপড় দ্বারা)।
(৩) পায়ের পিঠ ঢেকে যায় এমন জুতা পরা।
(৪) নখকাটা, চুলকাটা, বা ছিড়ে ফেলা,
(৫) সুগন্ধি ব্যবহার করা
(৬) শরীরে সাবান লাগানো।
(৭) শিকার করা, কাউকে শিকার দেখিয়ে দেয়া।
(৮) ঝগড়া বিবাদ বা যুদ্ধ করা; বিবাহের প্রস্থাব দেয়া।
(৯) উকুন, ছারপোকা, মশা ও মাছিসহ কোন জীবজন্তু হত্যা করা বা মারা।
(১০) স্ত্রীসংগম করা, যৌন উত্তেজনামূলক কোন আচরণ বা কোন কথা বলা।
