Dear Patrons,

Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary is a cathedral belonging to the Catholic Church located in the city of Chittagong the second largest city in Bangladesh. This church was established around 500/600 years back. There are approximately around ………. Worshipers around Chittagong who come under the The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.
A great number of Christian live adjacent to the Church, a large number of these people have migrated from different parts of the country and are now living in rented houses. Among these people there are quite a few number of people who are not very solvent financially and live in very poor/inhuman conditions. They live in tiny spaces somehow surviving. It is particularly difficult when any of the family members of these people passes away, as the body of the deceased becomes a real burden for these poor people. In most of the cases the body is kept overnight at the Church, under the belfry or until the burial ceremony. It is not only insensitive but also disrespectful that we can’t even give proper honor to the departed. The body of the person lying there may have been someone who was loved dearly and taken care of in their life time, and once their life is over their body is kept outside in an open space unloved/unwanted. In honor and respect of the departed members of our community the church is in great need of a “Funeral Palour” a place where we can lay our loved ones out as arrangement for their burial is being made, also a “Funeral Palour” would be beneficial for the following reasons :-
Many Parishioners, living in rented small houses where there is no space or facility to place their dear departed, immediately after demise, for friends and relatives to come and pay their respects.

Many Parishioners now a days are living in high rise buildings/apartments and have to face similar problems as carrying the body up to the apartment or bringing it down is difficult due to the stairs being too narrow.

If the owners of the houses rented by parishioners are from the Hindu community, then they do not allow the dead body to remain in the house due to their own religious obligations and beliefs which has to be respected.
Therefore, with the permission and approval of the Chittagong Metropolitan Archbishop a location is allotted for the parishioners to make a small funeral room/Parlor to keep the dead body till the funeral also where loved ones can pay their last respects. This room could be used for holding prayer meetings. The approximate budget for the funeral room/parlor and modifying the Cemetery is around Tk. 25,00,000 only. Now it is our responsibility to organize/collect the required funds for this project. As such, the organizing committee is required to source for these funds and have considered you as one of the more affluent in our archdiocese. We humbly approach you for your kind assistance by a donation(s)/ sponsorship(s) toward this cause.
We look forward to your firm and spontaneous support toward achieving the goal, more so, considering the time limitation as we would like to complete the project before 02 November 2019 (All Souls Day).
Thanking you very much,

On behalf of the Project Committee

Mr. Newton D'Silva- Coordinator
Mr. Duncan Pereira- Secretary
