Buddhist Monks’ Pilgrimage from the Seashore to the Capital.

Along the serene shoreline of Cox’s Bazar, where the blue waters meet the soft, golden sands, a group of peace-loving individuals painted a gentle portrait of harmony and hope. To spread the timeless message of communal unity and to pray for world peace, Buddhist monks have begun an exceptional pilgrimage on foot.

Amid the roaring waves of the restless sea, a different sound emerged—the quiet yet powerful melody of harmony and compassion. On Friday afternoon, as the crimson glow of the setting sun illuminated Kolatoli Beach, a group of devotees and Buddhist monks set out on their journey. Their hearts carried offerings of love, and their voices echoed with prayers for peace across the world.

Their path was filled with tranquility and meaning. Beginning at Kolatoli, the procession walked across the sandy stretches of Sugandha and Laboni Point before reaching the Central Shaheed Minar in the heart of the city. With every step, they carried the dream of a world free from division and conflict.

Among those present were Venerable Prajnabodhi Mahathera, Abbot of Ukhiya Central Ananda Bhavan Buddhist Monastery, and Charu Uttam Barua, Coordinator of the Chattogram Peace and Harmony Council. This small procession of around 40 peace-loving participants was not merely a physical journey, but a spiritual effort to connect hearts and minds. Their ultimate destination is the capital city, Dhaka. Organized by the Chattogram Peace and Harmony Council, this pilgrimage marks only the beginning of a much longer journey beyond Cox’s Bazar.

After beginning on Friday, the march will continue through the streets of Chattogram on Saturday, spreading its message of unity and harmony.

On Monday, the peace pilgrimage will reach Cumilla, near the historic banks of Moynamati and the Gomti River. On Tuesday, the journey will reach its culmination in Dhaka. Passing through Merul Badda, Gulshan, Hatirjheel, and Karwan Bazar, the silent and peaceful procession will conclude at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.

Carrying in their hearts the eternal truth that “love and harmony are humanity’s greatest religion,” this pilgrimage from the seashore will find its completion on the banks of the Buriganga in Dhaka. The monks believe that when the vastness of the ocean and the generosity of the human heart meet at a single point, true peace can return to the world.

My Achariya Father Has passed away 😭

Centenarian Sangharaj Dr. Jnanashree Mahasthavira Is No More

Centenary Buddhist patriarch Sangharaj Dr. Jnanashree Mahasthavira passed away in peace on Thursday, November 13, at 4:30 pm at Evercare Hospital in Chittagong. His passing has cast a profound shadow of grief over the Buddhist community of Bangladesh.

Dr. Jnanashree Mahasthavira was a legendary Buddhist sage, a social reformer, founder of numerous philanthropic institutions, an Ekushey Padak laureate, and the supreme religious leader of Bangladeshi Buddhists. With his wisdom, contemplation, intellect, compassion, and spiritual insight, he illuminated the Buddhist society for decades. Alongside spreading the sublime message of the Buddha, he dedicated his entire life to social reform, humanitarian service, and the cultivation of harmony and goodwill. He will be remembered forever for his contributions to peace, religious harmony, and human welfare.

Born as Loknath Barua on November 18, 1925, in the sacred village of Uttar Gujra (Domkhali) of Raozan Upazila, he lost his mother at an early age. He was lovingly raised under the care of his maternal uncle, the revered Sangha figure Venerable Manisha Bhadanta Sarananda Mahasthavira of West Binajuri village.
In 1944, under the guidance of the eminent Upa-Sangharaja Venerable Bhadanta Gunalankar Mahasthavira, he received novice ordination in Jobra village of Hathazari.

Five years later, in 1949, he received the rare Upasampada (higher ordination) under the same revered teacher. The young Loknath of Domkhali would, over time, rise to become the highest religious guru of Bangladeshi Buddhists—the 13th Sangharaj Dr. Jnanashree Mahasthavira, a legendary monastic leader and an Ekushey Padak-winning figure of the Buddhist world. His 80-year-long monastic life stands as a radiant chapter in the history of Buddhism in Bangladesh.

Throughout his long life of spiritual discipline, he embodied wisdom, meditation, sacrifice, purity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the Dhamma.
