Thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas Memorial Service and Carols. Despite the weather, we were grateful to welcome 150 guests and share such a meaningful evening together.

A special thank you to the companies and individuals who generously donated. Your support helped make this event possible and was truly appreciated by all who attended.

Your contributions brought comfort, connection, and the spirit of Christmas to our community. We value your support and look forward to continuing these relationships in the future.

🌧️ Update: Wet Weather Conditions at Yan Yean Cemetery 🌧️

Due to the current wet weather, the grounds at Yan Yean Cemetery are experiencing very soft and waterlogged conditions. This may result in some areas of the cemetery being covered in water and temporarily inaccessible, including gravesites that may have sunk.

Once the weather clears and the ground begins to dry, our staff will attend to these areas and carry out the necessary maintenance to restore the grounds.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Important Notice to people with Plots on Hold

The Yan Yean Cemetery Trust has recently passed a motion regarding cemetery plots that have been placed on hold for an extended period.

We are reaching out to individuals who currently have a plot on hold at Yan Yean Cemetery. Each identified holder will be given the opportunity to purchase the plot on hold within the next 3 months.

If no response is received within 14 days of our initial contact, the plot will be released and made available for an at-need burial.

If you believe you have a plot on hold and have not yet been contacted, please reach out to our office to confirm your details.

Employment Opportunity - General Hand

The Yan Yean Cemetery Trust is seeking a dedicated and reliable person to join our team as a General Hand.

The role offered is Permanent part time (15.2 hours a week).
The General Hand plays a vital role in maintaining the presentation, safety, and overall appearance of Yan Yean Cemetery’s grounds and facilities. This position ensures the cemetery remains a respectful, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for grieving families, visitors, funeral directors, and the broader community.

The role is responsible for a wide range of grounds, property maintenance tasks, and supporting day-to-day operational requirements. This role is requiring a proactive, reliable, and compassionate individual who takes pride in their work and contributes to a peaceful and respectful environment for all who visit.

The General Hand will report directly to the Cemetery Manager.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Experienced ground and building maintenance.
• Ability to operate safely power and hand tools.
• Knowledge of OH&S standards relating to outdoor worksites, including Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Ability to assist with grave presentation and preparation with accuracy and respect.
• Good communication with compassion, and patience towards others in a sensitive work environment.
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labour.
• A current, valid driver’s licence is required.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a full medical and Police check.

We’re proud to share that construction of the Stage 2 Lawn Section by the Lake at Yan Yean Cemetery is now officially complete!

This significant milestone marks another step forward in our commitment to providing serene and respectful spaces for our community. The new section features a harmonious blend of headstone and plaque lawn graves, lakeside memorial sites, native landscaping, and reflective spaces—all designed to honour our Master Plan vision.

We are excited to share that the Yan Yean Cemetery Trust has officially commenced the construction of its new Stage 2 lawn section by the lake!

This new expansion will feature headstone and plaque lawn graves, along with lakeside rock and memorial ash interment sites, offering a serene and tranquil resting place for families.

Designed in alignment with the cemetery’s master plan, the site includes sweeping pathways, native plantings, reflective spaces, and seating areas for peaceful contemplation. A central driveway will also ensure smooth access for funeral and operational services.

Located in a prime lakeside area, this development reflects the natural beauty of the Yan Yean and Whittlesea district.

With over 800 new interment sites, the project, delivered by Untye Southern, is on track to be completed by the end of April.
