A Special Sunday of Faith, Grace & Confirmation
Last Sunday was a very special day in the life of our church as we celebrated Ranu’s Confirmation Service.
It was a joyful and meaningful occasion, surrounded by family, friends, and our church community. One of the most moving moments of the service was hearing Ranu share her own story of faith — a story of growing up in a Christian family, drifting away during the busyness and challenges of life, and discovering again that God had never stopped loving her or calling her home.
With Ranu’s permission, we are grateful to share some photos from the service together with her prepared faith statement.
Ranu’s Testimony
“Good morning everyone. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ranu Porter and today I stand before you with a heart full of gratitude as I publicly declare my faith through confirmation.
I have been fortunate to have been raised in a close, loving Christian family. My mother and father were deeply devoted Christians, and my father served as a church deacon. My parents lived their faith every day, not just through their words, but through their kindness, generosity, compassion, and service to others. They taught me that being a Christian was not something you did only on Sundays; it was a way of life.
Some of my earliest memories are of church. I went to Sunday School, Bible study with my parents, youth, read the Bible during services, attended crusades, and went door to door collecting donations and food to support pastors and their families. Church was where I learned about God’s love, and those experiences shaped my childhood in ways I didn’t fully appreciate at the time.
As I grew older, life became busy. Like so many people, work, responsibilities, and everyday pressures slowly took over. Without really realising it, I drifted away from my faith. I stopped making time for God and tried to face life’s challenges in my own strength.
Over time, I found myself facing some very difficult challenges. Everything seemed to be falling apart, and I felt lost and uncertain about where my life was heading.
Looking back now, I realise how far I had drifted from God. Then, one day, I knew I needed to return to church.
I returned to Gosford Uniting Church, where you welcomed me with warmth, kindness, and without judgement. From that day on, I began to rebuild my faith through your wisdom and caring nature, and through the love and support of the church community.
Week by week, I rediscovered the peace, hope, and strength that come from trusting God.
Looking back now, I can see that God had never left me; he was patiently waiting for me to come home.”
What a beautiful reminder of God’s faithful grace.
No matter how far we may feel we have wandered, God’s love continues to call us home.
We give thanks for Ranu, for her courage in sharing her story, and for this significant step in her journey of faith.
May God continue to guide her, strengthen her, and use her life as a blessing to others.
