On this day when we acknowledge the importance of fatherhood among us. We also give thanks that you are a loving parent to us all. You have formed us in your image as your children and gathered us together as your family. Today We celebrate your love, reflected in the many human expressions of fatherhood.
We give you thanks for the fathers among us and ask that you strengthen them in their daily tasks. Grant them wisdom in the lessons they teach, patience in the discipline they foster, and persistence in their promotion of decency and compassion, both by word and example. May they be given honour and the thanks they deserve.
We thank you for all fatherly figures: grandfathers, uncles, brothers, husbands, step-fathers, foster fathers, guardians, babysitters, teachers, health care providers, neighbours, friends, loved ones, and many others, who practice self-sacrifice and embody compassion to all who are privileged to be in their influence. Grant them vigour to carry on their work, and the satisfaction that the holy privilege of their task affords.
Amen.
As a father is kind to his children, so the LORD is kind to those who honour him.
