ARCHDIOCESAN CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
On Sunday 7 June 2026, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), parishes, communities, families and all are invited to join Archbishop Peter A Comensoli at the annual Melbourne Corpus Christi Procession as the Archdiocese of Melbourne publicly and joyfully journeys with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Like those disciples who recognised Jesus on the journey to Emmaus, this afternoon will be a wonderful opportunity for the whole Archdiocesan community to bear witness to the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, our light and hope, into the heart of the city.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians. Normally celebrated on May 24, the Church moved the celebration to the 25 May, due to the feast of Pentecost falling on the same day.
Mary Help of Christians, a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary because of the victory of the Battle of Lepanto back in 1571, is also the patroness of Australia. Back in the early 1800's, at a time when there were no priests in Australia, the faith was kept alive through devotion to the Blessed Mother, then later, her patronage was adopted during the Provincial Synod of Sydney in 1844.
Australia was the first country in the world to have Mary Help of Christians as Patroness.

Almighty God, deepen in our hearts our love of Mary Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection, may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

This weekend we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, and the birth of the Church; the day that the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles in the upper room, empowering and propeling them for the spreading of the Gospel.
