The Magic Behind the Melody 🎵✨

Did you know the rhythm of 'Come They Told Me' has a fascinating musical lineage?

Composer Katherine Kennicott Davis drew inspiration from an old French carol called "Patapan"—a carol with a beautiful, repeating onomatopoeic rhythm. That hypnotic "pa-rum-pum-pum-pum" you hear in the drum? That came straight from the heart of that ancient melody.

It's music layered with history, tradition, and cultural connection. A French carol inspiring an American composer, who created a piece that would touch hearts worldwide for generations to come.

In just 5 days, you'll hear this magic live. The rhythm, the melody, the story—all coming together under candlelight. 🕯️

Did you know? 📜✨

'Come They Told Me' has a fascinating history! Originally written as a choral piece in 1941 by American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis under the title "Carol of the Drum," this carol tells the timeless story of the three Wise Men.

Tradition names them:
🌟 Melchior (Persia)
🌟 Caspar (India)
🌟 Balthazar (Arabia or Ethiopia)

Each brought precious gifts to the newborn King. Each carried their own journey, their own faith, their own devotion.

In just 6 days, we'll gather under candlelight to sing this 80+ year-old carol together—a melody that has touched hearts across generations and continents.

Will you join us? 🕯️

From Archbishop Ric Thorpe: "I am deeply saddened by the appalling act of violence and terrorism that occurred at Bondi Beach this evening. That such a tragedy should strike during Hanukkah, a celebration of light, peace, and hope, is a profound evil that has no place in our society.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community, especially those targeted in this senseless act. To our Jewish brothers and sisters, we stand in unwavering solidarity with you during this time. This was an attack on your community, but it is also an assault on the shared values of harmony and religious freedom that we all hold dear.

We condemn this hatred in the strongest terms and pray for the peace of God to comfort all who are grieving. May we reject division and instead work together to protect the safety and dignity of every person in our nation.

‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ (John 1:5)"
