Written in the Ordinary

You may never know the full extent of the impact of your presence and actions. The ripple of a life goes further than we realise. But on a day set aside to honour the women who have shaped us — take note of this: you have been someone's miracle
dressed in ordinary clothes.

The women who shaped you probably didn't think of themselves as remarkable. They were just being themselves, faithfully, in the everyday.

And it was enough. More than enough.

You are more than enough too. Happy Mother's Day!

Today is Do It For Dolly Day 💙

A day to stand against bullying and to remind people they matter.

Sometimes bullying isn’t loud or obvious.

Sometimes it looks like:
• excluding someone
• gossip disguised as “concern”
• sarcasm that cuts deep
• cruel jokes
• public embarrassment
• online comments
• eye rolling and mockery
• constantly criticising someone
• making people feel unwanted or invisible

Words can leave wounds we cannot see.

The Bible speaks so much about the power of our words and the way we treat others.

“The tongue has the power of life and death.”
— Proverbs 18:21

“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
— Proverbs 16:24

“No unwholesome talk should come from your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up.”
— Ephesians 4:29

James compares the tongue to something small that can still cause enormous damage:
“The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts… it is a fire.”
— James 3:5-6

As Christians, we are called to reflect Jesus in the way we speak, post, joke, respond and treat people — especially those who may already be hurting.

Kindness matters.
Compassion matters.
People matter.

Wear blue today for Dolly 💙
And let your words bring life, not pain.

What you said without saying it

Some of the most important things we ever communicate, we never actually say out loud.

The way you showed up when a friend was falling apart — not with the right words, but just with your presence. The times you've sat with someone in a hard moment and not tried to fix anything. The look across a room that said, "I see you". The cup of tea made without being asked.

We live in a world convinced that communication means words. But the people closest to us know different. They remember how you made them feel long after they've forgotten what you said.

The love you've communicated without words is not less real. In many cases, it's the part that actually landed.

A moment to reflect:
Think of a person who showed you love without words — a gesture, a presence, something unspoken. Then consider who might be receiving that same wordless love from you without realising it.

Each day leading up to Mother's Day a new short reading from "Written in the Ordinary" is released. Follow along at http://mums.warragul.church

The Drive You've Done A Thousand Times

Another school drop-off. The grocery run. The drive to work. The drive to visit an elderly parent. The route you could drive with your eyes closed and sometimes feel like you do.

Repetition is an interesting thing. It can deaden us — turn whole years into a blur. But it can also do the opposite, if we let it. It can become a kind of practice. A rhythm. A small faithful act done again and again until it becomes the shape of a life.

The drives you've done a thousand times are also the drives that got someone to school, to the doctor, to the place they needed to be. The ordinary route, taken again and again, is evidence of a love that didn't need a reason to keep going.

Most of the people who shaped us didn't do it with grand gestures. They just kept coming back. You don't have to feel inspired to be faithful. You just have to keep showing up. And you have been — more than you probably notice.

A moment to reflect
On your next familiar drive or commute, leave the podcast or music off for a while. Drive in quiet. Pay attention to what you notice when you stop filling the space.

Each day you will find a short 2–3 minute reflection to read, followed by a small, practical activity suggestion. You don't need to do anything special. When you get a quiet moment, read the reflection and see what resonates with you.
