🌍 One in Christ, United in Mission

This year marks 100 years of World Mission Day, and Pope Leo XIV reminds us that we are "One in Christ, United in Mission."

This week, we're invited to partner with Catholic Mission and the Church in Malawi, supporting families rebuilding after devastating floods and helping children access education close to home. Through projects like St Peter's Nyamikuta Primary School, children can learn, be nourished and grow with dignity, whatever their background or beliefs.

✝️ 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time — "Love God, Love Your Neighbour"

In today's Gospel, a scholar asks Jesus which commandment is the greatest. With 613 commandments in the Torah, he was probably expecting a ranking. Instead, Jesus offers a relationship: love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself.

Fr Edward reminds us that these two commandments are inseparable, like the beams of the Cross. The vertical beam is our relationship with God; the horizontal beam is our relationship with one another.

We often divide our love: loving God when it's convenient, or loving the neighbour who is like us rather than the one who is different. But as Fr Edward says, "Love cannot be divided or prioritised. It is not a commodity to be rationed."

This week, may our love reach both the neighbour on the left and the neighbour on the right. 💛

Pope from 1978 to 2005, St John Paul II travelled the world proclaiming the Gospel, founded World Youth Day, and visited Australia twice. His feast day falls on the anniversary of his papal inauguration in 1978.
