Celebrating the Life of Joshua Roni Fairchild Brunt

Josh was like no person any of us have ever met. Josh lived a life of integrity. He was uninterested in small talk, so every interaction was meaningful and edifying. Josh was thoughtful with his siblings, loyal to his friendships, and frank with everyone. He loved to read and was passionate about writing. He loved anime and fan fiction. He was a scholar and an intellectual.

As a boy, Josh became obsessed with sailing and grew up in the Otago Harbour on a Bic.

When asked about going to church, Josh said, “If the mountains were good enough for Moses, then they’re good enough for me,” and spent as much time in the mountains as possible. His third home (behind his parents and aunties) was the Silver Peaks, and his fourth was the pub.

Josh loved meeting new people and trying new things. He found motorbikes a few years ago and never looked back.

Kaua e mate wheke, mate ururoa "Do not die like an octopus, die like a hammerhead shark,"

Josh died doing what he loved: making new friends, exploring new places, and riding his motorbike.

Saying we will miss him doesn’t quite capture how we feel. Our lives will never be the same.

Family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing Josh are invited to join us as we celebrate his life.

Anyone who knows Heaven Funerals knows that our families and our community will always come first.

Supporting our community has always been at the heart of what we do, and we're passionate about giving back in meaningful ways beyond providing funeral services.
One idea we're currently exploring is partnering with local schools to introduce students to career pathways they may never have considered.

When schools host career and pathway days, students are often introduced to industries such as hospitality, construction, childcare, apprenticeships, defence, and university pathways. These are all fantastic opportunities, but there are also many rewarding careers that often go unnoticed. Like the funeral Industry.

The funeral profession is so much more than what people see. It offers careers in funeral directing, mortuary care, administration, customer service, event coordination, floral design, memorial planning, graphic design, livestreaming, vehicle operations, grief support, and many other roles. It is a profession built on compassion, respect, and making a real difference in people's lives.

We also believe that having open, age-appropriate conversations about death can help remove some of the fear and stigma surrounding it. Death is a natural part of life, and educating young people can help them better understand not only the grief and loss, of others but for themselves as well. It also shows the important role funeral professionals play in supporting families.

💬 We'd love to hear your thoughts.

• Do you think schools should introduce students to careers in the funeral industry?
• How do you think this could benefit the next generation?
• Would you support Heaven Funerals visiting local schools to share these opportunities?

Leave a comment below or simply give this post a ❤️ or share, if you believe this is a positive way to give back to our community while educating and inspiring the next generation.

One of the greatest privileges we have is being entrusted to care for families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Recently, Annie Baldwin and her whānau shared these heartfelt words after we had the honour of arranging services for both her father and, later, her mother. Reading her message reminded us why we do what we do.
Every family is unique, and every life deserves to be honoured in a way that reflects their values, beliefs, and legacy. Whether it is incorporating cultural traditions, faith-based services, or simply ensuring the smallest details are cared for, our goal is always to provide compassionate support and guidance every step of the way.
We are incredibly grateful to Annie and her family for allowing us to walk alongside them during their journey and for sharing their experience with others.

Thank you, Annie Baldwin and family, for your trust, your kindness, and your beautiful words.
